Lauren will also be coaching the Nevada Camp this August!

“My name is Lauren Schurman and one of my main reasons for loving softball is the opportunity to play and compete for something bigger than myself. I also love having the ability to play at such a high level. I have been pitching for over 11 years and hope to use my experience by helping others achieve their goals. Coaching young athletes allows me to share my love of the game as well as help them grow.”

We are extra excited to have her to assist with the pitching section!

Isn’t it the best feeling to go 3 up 3 down in an inning?

After an offseason of working hard and preparing to be your best it feels satisfying when that pays off. Spending time working on more than just throwing strikes. You practice how to handle the pressure, how to push through the problems you may face.

It all pays off when you can perform just the way you wanted in a game. It doesn’t mean this happens during every inning, game or tournament. It means you improved. That is the point of the game.

What softball has taught me since then:

Softball is more than just a sport. It is a game that teaches you responsibility, resilience, discipline.

If you do not show up for yourself, you are disrespecting your team as well. Softball is a sport that does not rely on just one person or one player. You have to work together to win the game. You are responsible for the individual work you put in, and that translates to the whole team.

The game can change in a second, one out, one ball, or one hit. You have to be able to react and overcome challenges. This is something that can translate to everyday life challenges that come at you. Learning how to adapt makes you a resilient person and much stronger.

To get what you what you have to make sacrifices, dreams do not come easily. They are something you have to actively choose to work towards. Discipline helps you achieve things that may seem out of your reach.

Meet Jersey Hawf!

She will be coaching our Sioux City Camp, helping with pitching and more!

“Hi! I am Jersey Hawf. I am going to be a sophomore at Iowa Central where I played second base, and anywhere else they needed me to. I went to high school at West Lyon in Larchwood, IA where I mainly pitched.

Softball has always been a big part of my life and has given me some of my best friends and lifelong memories. One thing I love almost the same as playing is coaching the youth. It’s so rewarding to see a player go from trying to get better at something in practice, to then doing it perfectly in a game. My experience in softball has taught me so many life skills like hard work, team work, and time management. I am so excited to give back to the youth!!”

Meet Paige Zender! One of our coaches for the Nevada Camp coming this August!

“Hi! I’m Paige Zender, a senior at Iowa State University where I play First Base (1B) and Designated Player (DP) for the Cyclone softball! I’m originally from Rosemount, MN.

Softball has given me so much throughout my life—from lifelong friendships and incredible opportunities to lessons in leadership, resilience, and teamwork. I love helping young athletes because I remember looking up to older players when I was their age, and I know how much confidence and encouragement from a coach can mean. My experiences in softball have helped shape me into the person I am today, and I’m excited to give back to the next generation by sharing what I’ve learned and helping athletes grow both on and off the field.”

We are so excited to have her on the team!
