For those of you that do not follow my personal page, we have been doctoring Barbie, our beautiful draft mare, for the last few weeks so it has been a while since our last post. We didn’t know when we adopted her last May that she was pregnant, and we do not know who bred her but we suspect it happened at the auction. Her foal was very large and she had a difficult birth. Her foal unfortunately was still born. We had quite a big scare because Barbie was clearly in a lot of pain. She went to Chatham Animal Clinic 4 times to have pieces of placenta removed and she had very severe vaginal wall tearing. By her 3rd visit, she had foundered from toxins entering her blood stream and Dr. Erwin warned us that founder from this type of situation is extremely hard to recover from. We were ALL amazed to see the very next day she was walking much better and a large piece of her wall was removed that was producing the foul odor. Pregnancy complications in horses is so scary because any leftover placenta can cause sepsis and founder, both of which are life threatening. It has now been a week and a half since her last vet visit and after lots of medication, cold hoses and internal cleanings she is expected to make a FULL recovery! She has been eating, drinking and free roaming the farm and our little pig, Mr. Wiggles, has become her best friend!

In an effort to help cover her veterinary bills, we will be offering our special rates through next Wednesday 6/10 which I will be posting separately.

Thank you to Chatham Animal Clinic, Dr Jim, Dr, Erwin, Dr Adkins, our neighbors and friends with all of your help through this difficult and scary time!

We had a fun weekend with our guests and we welcomed 2 new horses looking for their new forever homes! I will be posting pictures and videos of them and their full descriptions. One is a 4 year old sorrel paint QH mare standing 13.3 hands and the other is a 7 year old 16.3 hand thoroughbred mare. Both mares are experienced with trail rides and priced in the low to mid 4 figures.

Book a ride, campsite or cabin stay and ride our horses or bring your own! If you’re interested in adopting a horse we have multiple available! If you need help with your horse we also offer training & conditioning.

Send a pm or text/call Jessica at 434-440-7311 for questions or to make reservations. Located in Alton, Virginia.

Went for a short trail ride with Allison, John and their girls! Anna is so excited about Penelope being her own little pony. Harper rode her horse, Sugar, and took Luna for a ride in the round pen after we got back. They’ve been begging their mom to “ride with Jessica” so the girls were happy and mom and dad were happy to get a little home away from home time at the farm!

Little bit has figured out how good “scritchin” feels! He is the cutest thing! He’s going to be halter broke before long.

I’m obsessed!! This cute little guy had never been touched since he was born. Brought him to the farm Thursday and have spent a couple hours with him every day in the pasture. Today he let me scratch him and boy did he love it! He’s going to be hooked now.
