The first person to ever complete the 2,000-Yard Milk Jug Challenge. 🎯💥

Just moments before this video was filmed, Michael Langston accomplished something that had never been done before.

He became the first person ever to hit the 1 Mile Milk Jug Challenge cold bore.

First shot of the day.

No warmup.

No sighters.

Just one shot at 1,760 yards… and a direct hit.

Then things got even crazier.

Michael removed the barrel from his custom switch-barrel rifle, reinstalled it by hand, and moved over to attempt the 2,000-Yard Milk Jug Challenge.

At the time, nobody had ever completed it.

His first shot hit the 24” steel plate behind the milk jug.

His second shot missed just inches high and right.

His third shot missed by only inches again.

Then on Shot #4…

Pew………………………………….💥

Impact.

The first successful 2,000-Yard Milk Jug Challenge in LRSU history.

What makes this performance so impressive isn’t just the hit.

It’s how close every shot was.

At 2,000 yards, tiny errors become huge misses. Yet Michael was consistently putting shots within inches of the target while shooting a rifle that had literally just had its barrel removed and reinstalled.

One of the greatest long-range shooting performances I’ve ever witnessed.

And one I’ll never forget.

Congratulations, Michael. 👊

Half-Marathon ✅

This morning my wife and I checked something off the bucket list and completed our first half marathon together.

We ran the Timp Half Marathon from Tibble Fork Reservoir down American Fork Canyon to Art Dye Park.

My goal was simple: break 2 hours.

Despite not running much the last two weeks (and training pretty inconsistently before that 😅), I felt great through the first 4-5 miles and was comfortably ahead of pace.

Then an unexpected blister started forming on my right foot.

The last few miles were rough.

My hip flexors tightened up, my legs felt like lead, and I was basically running on stubbornness.

I crossed the finish line with a chip time of 2:00:16.

Sixteen seconds. 😂

Had I not stopped to tie my shoe or glanced at the clock during my final sprint, I probably would’ve snuck under the two-hour mark.

But that’s part of the lesson.

Preparation matters.

And I definitely didn’t prepare as well as I should have. 🤷‍♂️

Still, I’m proud of the result and happy to cross a half marathon off the list.

The best part?

Today is also my wife’s 40th birthday. 🎉❤️

What a way to close out the dirty thirties and kick off a new decade.

One final thought…

This race raises money for cancer research, and during the final mile there were signs honoring people who have battled or lost their lives to cancer.

That was a powerful reminder not to take our health, families, or opportunities for granted.

And speaking of cancer, I’d appreciate prayers for my right-hand man, Nick Peterson (Nick).

Nick has beaten cancer multiple times despite losing his right eye in the fight. We had another scan yesterday and should get the results Monday.

This might still be the most ridiculous performance in Milk Jug Challenge history. 😳🎯

Eight years ago, Michael Langston became:

🏆 The first person ever to hit the 1 Mile Milk Jug Challenge cold bore.

🏆 The first person ever to complete the 2,000-Yard Milk Jug Challenge.

And he did both on the same day.

This was back when we used real one-gallon milk jugs filled with water and red dye instead of the steel milk jug targets we use today.

There was snow on the ground.

Michael hadn’t fired a single shot all day.

And just minutes before the attempt, he removed the barrel from his custom switch-barrel rifle and reinstalled it by hand.

Then…

Pew………………………………….💥

Cold bore.

1 Mile.

First shot of the day.

🤯

Later that afternoon he became the first person ever to complete the 2,000-Yard Milk Jug Challenge as well.

For those who know Michael, none of this is surprising.

For years he was one of LRSU’s most dedicated instructors, volunteers, and supporters. He’s also one of the finest spotters I’ve ever had the privilege of working with.

The drive from St. George eventually became too much, but he’ll always be part of the LRSU family.

Thank you for everything you’ve done for LRSU, Michael. 👊❤️

“Bet you can’t do it twice.” 😏🎯

Every time I post one of these videos, somebody says it.

So this one’s for them.

After class wrapped up and the wind finally settled down, I decided to see if I could hit our 1 Mile Milk Jug Challenge target from a standing tripod position.

Not prone.

Not from a bench.

Standing.

The first impact was satisfying.

The second one was even better. 😎

The video then zooms out to show the full distance the bullet traveled before connecting with a target that’s barely visible to the naked eye.

A mile is a long way.

A standing position makes it even more interesting.

And yes…

I did it twice.

Prepare to have your heart warmed. ❤️🎯

This is one of my favorite shooting memories of all time.

Years ago at a family reunion, my daughter and I spent the afternoon shooting our Kid Super Grade .22 LR rifles at one of our 6” x 10” steel milk jug targets set out at 245 yards.

For those who aren’t familiar with long-range rimfire shooting, a 245-yard shot with a .22 LR is surprisingly similar, ballistically, to a 1,000-yard shot with a 6.5 Creedmoor. Lots of bullet drop, lots of time in flight, and plenty of opportunity to miss.

On this day, I managed a quintuple tap.

Five hits in one volley.

Then my daughter, who was only 4 years old at the time, stepped up and answered with a double tap of her own. 😏

The shooting is fun to watch.

But that’s not what makes this video special.

What makes it special is getting to share these moments with our kids.

The smiles.
The excitement.
The confidence that comes from accomplishing something difficult.

Years later, I barely remember the score.

But I’ll never forget the day.

❤️

Did you see the bullet? 👀🎯

Watch closely and you’ll actually see the bullet wake as it travels 1,200 yards downrange before impacting the milk jug.

This shot was made by Matt Adamson during our May 15–16 Intro to Long Range class.

Matt is a Utah law enforcement officer and longtime friend of LRSU instructor Nick Peterson. After years of talking about taking the class, he finally made it out—and put on an impressive performance.

After completing the 1,000-Yard Milk Jug Challenge on his 3rd shot, Matt stepped up to the 1,200-yard challenge.

One shot to gather a little information.

One shot to finish the job.

Pew…………………………………………DING!

Impact on Shot #2.

Outstanding shooting and a great example of what happens when solid fundamentals meet quality equipment.

Matt Adamson finally made it happen. 🎯

Matt is a Utah law enforcement officer, a longtime friend of LRSU, and a good friend of our instructor Nick Peterson.

He’d been wanting to take our Intro to Long Range class for a long time, and finally made it out to our May 15–16 class.

Safe to say… he made the most of it.

Pew…………………………………………DING!

Matt completed the 1,000-yard Milk Jug Challenge on his 3rd shot, then followed it up by completing the 1,200-yard challenge on his 3rd shot as well.

Outstanding shooting.

Congratulations, Matt. Well earned. 👊
