Flashback to 2010 Atlanta Outdoor Club Tumbling Rock caving adventure: Twelve club members traveled to Alabama to go on a caving adventure inside Tumbling Rock. Tumbling Rock Cave has a variety of historical and natural features such as the remains of Salt-peter mining from the 1700s to 1800s, large flowstone formations with nice coloration of translucent blues, grays & whites, massive column formations called the "elephants feet" and a hallway of older formations called the "Totem Gallery." Our main destination on this trip was to the "topless dome" with a 400 feet high waterfall cascading from the ceiling. This caving trip was led by Diane Guthrie and Elizabeth Kotz and it was AWESOME. Interested in caving? We have another event planned at Tumbling Rock on July 25. Check out our calendar of events at AtlantaOutdoorClub.com

What an adventure! Twenty-three Atlanta Outdoor Club members spent 10 unforgettable days in Tanzania in May, viewing incredible wildlife and experiencing rich cultural connections (and other fun moments) that will stay with them for years to come. From Arusha National Park and the breathtaking Ngorongoro Crater to the Serengeti and the Great Migration, they saw lions, elephants, rhinos, flamingos, and countless other animals in their natural habitats. The trip was about more than wildlife — highlights also included visiting with the Hadzabe Bushmen, meeting the Datoga and Maasai communities, and spending meaningful time at the Shalom Centre for Street Children. A huge thanks to the club's outfitter, Top Nature Tanzania Safaris, for creating an amazing experience from start to finish. A second BIG thanks to trip leaders Allston Kendall and Steven Redmond for organizing this trip for the club. Learn more about our events at AtlantaOutdoorClub.com

From the rolling Solway Coast to the banks of the River Tyne, fourteen Atlanta Outdoor Club hikers recently completed an unforgettable journey along England’s historic Hadrian’s Wall Path. The club's Kiran Narker organized this adventure. Over 8 days in May, his group traced the edge of the ancient Roman Empire -- starting in the historic city of Carlisle, winding through quiet farmland, rugged crags, and well-preserved Roman sites, and finishing in vibrant Newcastle upon Tyne. Highlights along the way included sweeping coastal marshlands at Bowness-on-Solway, dramatic climbs over Winshields Crags, and immersive visits to iconic Roman heritage sites such as Vindolanda Fort, Housesteads Roman Fort, and Chesters Roman Fort. What an adventure! Learn more about our events at AtlantaOutdoorClub.com

A big thanks to Atlanta Outdoor Club trip leader, Clay Davies, for leading a recent hike from Darnell Creek Trail and the Bartram Trail to the summit of Rabun Bald -- Georgia’s second-highest peak at 4,696 feet. Clay says his crew of 11 hikers covered over 15 miles with more than 3,200 feet of elevation gain. Impressive! He noted, "It was a cool mostly overcast day and everyone enjoyed the long hike." From the streets of Palermo to the ancient valley of Agrigento, six members of the Atlanta Outdoor Club recently completed an unforgettable trek across Sicily along the historic Magna Via Francigena. After arriving in Palermo for sightseeing and a group kickoff dinner, hikers set out on a multi-day journey through the island’s interior ...traversing rolling hills, rural villages, and sweeping elevation gains that pushed the group mile after mile deeper into Sicily’s landscape and history. The route carried the group (led by Ann and Ralph Howard) from Monreale and Santa Cristina Gela to Corleone, then onward through Prizzi, Castronovo di Sicilia, and San Giovanni Gemini. Each day brought new terrain, climbs, and ever-changing views of Sicily. What an adventure! Learn more about our events at AtlantaOutdoorClub.com
