Happy Technician Tuesday from our Montaño location.

As we continue rolling through our amazing mechanics, next in line is Ray Chavez.

Ray is a homegrown New Mexican who started racing BMX bikes in eighth grade and has been wrenching on a wide range of bikes ever since. From his BMX racing background, he has grown a true love for BMX, dirt jumps, outdoor adventures, cross-country riding, and now, he is diving into the world of gravel bikes.

Throughout his mechanic career, Ray has worked at several local bike shops here in Albuquerque, and we are extremely blessed to have his knowledge and expertise here at Fat Tire Cycles Montaño. Whether you need a quick fix, a full tune, or just some solid bike advice, Ray is here to help keep you rolling.

If you see him out at the dirt park, on the trails, or cruising the gravel roads, make sure you say hello and pick his brain. He brings tons of knowledge from both racing and wrenching.

And remember, when paying your tabs, don’t forget to tip these amazing technicians.

Happy Thankful Tuesday.

Fat Tire Cycles is a huge advocate for supporting and sponsoring athletes in any way we can. We are proud to support our main team, 505 Cycles presented by Fat Tire. Many of you have probably seen them riding around New Mexico at local and national races, representing the cycling community and Fat Tire Cycles in an awesome way.

This guy right here is the true epitome of selfless service. After a tenured career in the Air Force, followed by several other government roles, Scott Skirch has continued to dedicate his time to serving the local community as a police officer.

On top of all that, Scott has spent time on and off working with us whenever Fat Tire really needed help. He has worked at all of our locations, sharing his bike knowledge and expertise with customers, while also helping mentor staff along the way. Even now, when he stops by the shop, he is always walking around, helping customers, answering questions, and getting people rolling on bikes.

Scott also leads the majority of our gravel, road, and mountain bike rides whenever he can squeeze it into his busy schedule. He is a father of two awesome kids, one of whom works at our Corrales location, and he continues to be an amazing representative of everything we love about this cycling community.

Scott Skirch is an amazing individual, and we are proud to support him. Congrats on all your accomplishments and races. Keep crushing this season.

As we continue this Maintenance Monday highlighting our awesome mechanics, next up is one of our most tenured and respected wrenches, Sjouke (pronounced Shokee).

Sjouke is a true legend in the cycling community. He has been part of the Fat Tire Cycles family for more than 22 years and has spent over 30 years turning wrenches on bikes. His experience, knowledge, and dedication have helped keep countless riders rolling throughout New Mexico.

While many know Sjouke as an incredible mechanic, his passion for helping others extends far beyond the bike shop. During the school year, he serves as one of the area’s most respected math teachers, dedicating his time to helping the next generation learn, grow, and succeed. When summer arrives, he brings that same passion for helping people to Fat Tire Cycles, making sure riders are ready to get out and enjoy the roads, trails, and adventures that make cycling so special.

A devoted family man, Sjouke loves spending time outdoors with his family. You’ll often find him out on road rides, pulling his youngest daughter in a bike trailer while creating memories on two wheels. When he’s not riding, he’s also an avid skateboarder and snowboarder who enjoys staying active year round.

We are incredibly fortunate to have someone with Sjouke’s experience, character, and dedication on our team. If you stop by the shop and see him, make sure to say hello and pick his brain. With decades of experience in cycling, education, and life, there’s a good chance you’ll learn something valuable.

🔧 Mechanic Spotlight: Meet Tilman 🔧

As we cruise through the middle of the week, it’s time to highlight another awesome mechanic from our Montaño location.

Meet Tilman, a homegrown New Mexican who has been working on bikes since he was just six years old. With more than 20 years of experience wrenching on bicycles and six months here at Fat Tire Cycles, he has quickly become an incredible addition to our crew.

When it comes to riding, Tilman takes a unique approach. His favorite style is single speed fixed gear riding, especially on mountain bike and bikepacking adventures. Over the years, he has bikepacked some of the most iconic routes stretching from New Mexico all the way to California.

What makes Tilman such a great mechanic is that he doesn’t just repair bikes and send people on their way. He genuinely loves cycling and helping others get outside, explore new places, and create adventures of their own. His real-world experience on the bike gives him a unique perspective when it comes to keeping your ride running at its best.

As if that wasn’t enough, Tilman is also a proud alumnus of the University of New Mexico, where he earned his bachelor’s degree in Biology. From bike mechanics to the outdoors, he’s a wealth of knowledge and always happy to share what he’s learned along the way.

If you see Tilman around the shop, make sure to say hello, ask him about one of his wild bikepacking adventures, and don’t forget to show some appreciation for the hardworking mechanics who keep all of us rolling.

🔧🚲 Happy Technician Tuesday! 🚲🔧

Meet Christian and his awesome support pup, Marley.

If you’ve spent any time around the Montaño shop, chances are you’ve already met Marley as she’s made her rounds checking on customers and keeping an eye on the service department.

Christian is a homegrown New Mexican who grew up in the skatepark scene with a passion for skateboarding. After serving four and a half years in the United States Marine Corps and spending time working on the Department of Defense side, he found a new passion in cycling.

These days, you’ll find him riding BMX, pump tracks, dirt jump parks, and downhill mountain bike trails whenever he gets the chance. His love for cycling extends beyond his own riding, as he enjoys sharing those experiences with his daughter and bringing Marley along for the adventure whenever possible.

Christian has been with Fat Tire Cycles for nearly a year and has become a huge asset to the team, bringing a diverse background, strong work ethic, and a wealth of life experience. With more than five years of personal wrenching experience, he loves helping riders get back on their bikes and out enjoying the road, trails, and everything in between.

Next time you’re in the Montaño shop, make sure to stop by, say hello to Christian, and give Marley some love. 🐾

Maintenance Monday at Fat Tire Cycles – Montaño

This week we’re highlighting one of our awesome mechanics, Mike M.

Originally from Massachusetts, Mike moved to New Mexico in 1995 and quickly developed a passion for cycling. After spending 10 years exploring and living in Argentina, he returned to New Mexico and eventually joined the team at Fat Tire Cycles.

Mike has been with Fat Tire for six years and brings more than 12 years of hands on mechanical experience, including years spent wrenching on his own bikes before turning it into a profession.

What drives him most is getting people back on their bikes. After hearing countless stories about long service wait times at other shops, he made it his mission to provide quality work and quick turnaround times so riders can get back to enjoying the road, trails, and everything in between.

His favorite bikes to work on and ride are mountain and gravel bikes, but he’s always happy to help with any bike that rolls through the door.

If you see Mike in the shop or out on the trails, be sure to say hello. He’s always happy to talk bikes and help keep those wheels rolling. 🚴‍♂️🔧

Happy Motivational Monday!

For those who love to say they don’t have time to train, exercise, or get some movement in, meet Woody.

Woody is a full-time teacher, a part-time employee here at Fat Tire Cycles, and one of our sponsored athletes. On top of giving back to the community in countless ways, she still finds the time and discipline to train at a high level.

Her hard work is paying off. To kick off triathlon season, Woody took 1st place overall in the female category and 2nd place overall in the entire race.

Results like that don’t happen by accident. They come from consistency, dedication, and showing up day after day, even when life gets busy.

We’re incredibly proud to have Woody representing Fat Tire Cycles and showing what’s possible when you set big goals and put in the work to achieve them.

Keep chasing your goals, keep crushing life, and let’s make this Monday count.

This version should fit nicely with the photos and has a stronger motivational feel while still highlighting Woody, Fat Tire Cycles, and the “no excuses” message.

As May comes to a close, we’re continuing to highlight the amazing mechanics who keep the wheels turning at Fat Tire Cycles.

Next up is Logan from our Montaño location in the heart of Albuquerque’s North Valley.

Although he’s only been with Fat Tire Cycles for a little over two months, Logan brings more than seven years of experience working on bikes and a passion for helping riders get the most out of every ride. Whether it’s a quick tune-up or a complete build, he’s always ready to get you back on two wheels.

When he’s not in the shop, you’ll usually find him on a BMX bike. BMX and dirt jumping are his true passions, and during his free time he volunteers his skills at the North Valley Bike Park, helping maintain the dirt jumps and features. His work helps keep the park in great shape, not only for his own riding but for everyone in the community to enjoy.

Originally from Arizona, Logan has called New Mexico home for the past three years and has quickly become a valued part of both our team and the local cycling community.

Make sure to stop by, say hello, and thank Logan for everything he does. And as always, don’t forget to tip your mechanics. Their hard work behind the scenes keeps your bikes rolling smoothly and safely all year long.
