News for thw Week:

**Board elections are just around the corner—here’s how to get involved!

In order to run for a position on the executive board, you must have served for at least one year as a cooridnatorn or committee chair.

To become a committee chair, you must be approved and appointed by the executive board.

**Association-sponsored send-off party on 1/20 for the Bantam AA Narwhals will be held at Benihana’s in Maple Prairie during Happy Hour!!!! Good luck during your two scrimmages thia weekend!!! (Coaches drink for free.)

**Executive board and hockey operations committee meeting minutes will no longer be recorded or archived This policy is retroactively effective to January 2023.

**Sq**rt AA captain, center and power play quarterback Rutherford McMasters V will be signing autographs in the concourse outisde of Rink D during the Peewee B2 game against Elk Rapids on Saturday 1/24.

**Goalie parent support group meeting on Sunday 1/25 has been cancelled.

**STMAYHA has been assigned their “little sister association” in Minnesota: The West Moundtonka Wildcats!

Beginning in the Fall of 2027, we will be conducting a used equipment drive to send all of our used, damaged and/or outdated hockey gear and equipment to the WMYHA and receive a handsome tax rebate.

The board has voted to approprite those funds to upgrade our 10u/Sq**rt AA Narwhal team from coach to business class during their 2027-28 Eurasian Christmas Break Swing through the Eastern Bloc countries and western Russia.

Due to increased interest from families of neighboring associations and the success of our new corporate recruiter, mid-season cuts and rerostering will be completed this week.

No hard feelings—

Moving forward, any disagreements between players at the 12u/peewee level and under will hash out their differences in a Narwhal Cage Match, as seen here from Russian footage. Any comments or complaints can be emailed to [email protected].

There is a sign-up sheet in the lobby of Rink B for th B1, B2 and C teams to volunteer to give up their ice time to the A/AA teams for the remainder of the month of January. Please contact association chairman Rutherford McMasters IV at [email protected] for further details.

The association has great news to share—Rink D will be converted next summer into an “Olympic-size+” ice sheet measuring 225’x125’. This rink will be solely dedicated to full ice 6u/Mini-Mite A/AA/AAA games and solo ice practices.

The hockey operations committee chair Richard Dangles has cited his own studies that questionably prove full-ice mite games are far more exciting for parents and provide “puck-centric” youth players stamina-building 220’ offensive rushes with fewer opportunities for turovers caused by bad passes.

Such a wide-open, one-dimensional style of hockey really helps the association identify and make a hollow case for priotizing our early bloomers with regards to coaching, resources and, of course, solo ice practices.

Any questions or concerns will be thoroughly addressed upon completion of the expansion project.

Happy New Year! Here’s the association’s news for the week:

**For association families who are expecting (or expecting to expect) in the new year, pre-registration for our 2026 birth year AAAA Fighting River Rats showcase team opens today. $1000 non-refundable deposit required at the time of registration. No refunds

**Outdoor practice ice is now available for the Narwhal B2 and C teams; ice time is subject to change in the event the weather is nice and the A/AA teams decide to skate outside.

**Narwhal sq**rt AA center and team captain Rutherford McMasters V has been selected by the executive board to represent the association at the Michigan Bantam/14u Select Camp. Congratulations RMV!

**This week’s goalie parent support group has been cancelled.

**The association has announced that we have officially raised enough to purchase the 45’ 4k HD video board for Rink D.

**Due to a lack of funding, the association will no longer offer girls hockey beyond the mite level beginning next season. Best of luck to the young ladies in you future endeavors!

Effective immediately, weekly ice touches will be apportioned as follows:

A/AA: 5-6 per week
B1: 4-5 per week
B2/C: 3-4 per week

Rather than taking a page out of the playbook of our more successful rival associations and creating a more even system of ice time distribution, we have instead crafted and instituted this policy because lower skilled players and their parents are obviously not as dedicated to the sport as the higher level players and their families.

Starting this season, the association will be issuing partial travel team refunds to the parents of the B2 and C players. These refunds will unfortunately be issued after fees for spring/summer AAA and/or offseason camps/clinics are due.

The executive board felt a little guilty that the A/AA teams are continuously practicing on solo ice, so please accept this refund as a token of our gratitude for allowing us to prioritize the development of our players over yours.

Cheers—
