Good morning Martial Artists! Here are the divisions for the forms and weapons events as well as the point sparring. Self Defense will loosely follow this but will be dependent on the makeup of competitors the day of. Semi Knockdown divisions will likewise be made up the day of and will be based off of age and size.

Good morning martial artists! A few quick things for everyone:

First, there is an excellent tournament hosted by Andalusia Isshinryu Karate this weekend. Go to their facebook for details, but the competition is top notch and we highly recommend this event!

Second, we will be having some information rolling out this week regarding the self defense competitions. Mr. Ryan Slay has put together some videos demonstrating some self defense techniques that will help everyone interested in competing in that event understand what to do..... as well as what NOT to!

Third, if you are planning on coming please pre-register! We have moved back to a 'pay-per-event' this year. It's $20 per event to pre-register and these must be in by 7/18/26. The link to pay via Square is on the confirmation page after you click submit. We do have pdf forms that can be printed - just email us at [email protected] and they can be sent to you.

🥋 Event Feature: Point Sparring

Fast. Technical. Exciting.

Point Sparring is one of the most popular divisions at the Albertville Open, testing speed, timing, accuracy, and control.

Key highlights:

⚡ Two-minute rounds
⚡ Under Black Belts compete to 3 points
⚡ Black Belts compete to 5 points
⚡ All scoring techniques are worth 1 point
⚡ Action stops after each point is scored
⚡ Sudden death overtime if needed

Competitors must demonstrate controlled techniques to legal target areas while maintaining the discipline and sportsmanship that martial arts is known for.

Required equipment includes:

🥊 Event Feature: Semi Knockdown Fighting

Looking for one of the most exciting divisions at the Albertville Open?

Semi Knockdown Fighting combines power, speed, and control in a fast-paced format that rewards effective technique and ring awareness.

Key highlights:
✅ Kicks and knees are allowed to the legs, body, and head
✅ Sweeps are permitted when followed by an immediate technique
✅ First competitor to score a full point wins
✅ Two 2-minute rounds, with a 1-minute overtime round if needed

Competitors are required to wear appropriate protective equipment, and divisions will be formed based on competitors at the tournament.

This division is designed to test skill, timing, and control while maintaining a safe competitive environment.
