NORTH AMERICAN PARK GOLF CHAMPIONSHIP RECAP

The inaugural IPGAA Traveler's Tour North American Park Golf Championship at 1Club in Vernon, New Jersey has concluded, and what a championship it was!

Championship Results

Men's Division:
1st: Hobart Shaw (52, 47 = 99)
2nd: Doug Penkalski (51, 51 = 102)
3rd: Phil Kosobucki (53, 53 = 106)

Women's Division:
1st: Tashina Abrams (60, 49 = 109)
2nd: Donna Kondel (75, 65 = 140)
3rd: Madison Freifelder (72, 74 = 146)

Hobart Shaw captured the North American Championship title with a 99 total and 100 Tour points, vaulting him into the overall Tour lead! In the women's division, Tashina Abrams delivered a hot second round of 49 to secure the title, earning crucial Tour points and tying the lead!

What It Means for the Tour:

With three major events now in the books, the race for the 2026 IPGAA Traveler's Tour championship has dramatically shifted!

Current Standings (Men's Division):
1st: Hobart Shaw - 286.0 points (3 events)
2nd: Frank Todaro - 284.0 points (3 events)
3rd: Taylor Junge - 193.5 points (2 events)
4th: Doug Penkalski - 183.5 points (2 events)
5th: Phil Kosobucki - 182.0 points (2 events)
6th: Tim Dalton - 178.5 points (2 events)

Current Standings (Women's Division):
1st: Courtney Campbell & Kayla Rivera & Tashina Abrams - 100.0 points (one event each)
4th: Kathy Shaw - 97.0 points (1 event)

Here's the Critical Detail: Remember that only each player's best 3 finishes count toward the final standing. This means Hobart Shaw and Frank Todaro can still improve their totals if they compete in the remaining tournaments and earn better scores than their current worst finishes. Likewise, players like Taylor Junge, Doug Penkalski, Phil Kosobucki, and Tim Dalton who have only played two events can still catch the leaders by putting together strong finishes in the remaining tournaments. And there are still plenty of events! You could start at the next event and still catch the leaders!

The championship is wide open. A hot streak at Destroyer could dramatically reshape the standings. Everyone, including the current leaders, has the opportunity to boost their Tour standing.

Upcoming Tour Events:

Two tournaments remain on the 2026 schedule:

13th Annual Destroyer Open - August 8 in Akron, NY
Ian "Lenny" Barbrick Memorial Tournament - August 15 in Shubenacadie, Nova Scotia

Don't count anyone out. The Traveler's Tour rewards those who travel and compete in the late-season push!

Congratulations to all competitors at the North American Park Golf Championship. See you on the road for the next stop on the tour!
