This award is not given lightly or routinely; it is reserved for an active professional huntsman who has demonstrated consistent good sportsmanship, leadership by example, and the qualities a huntsman needs to excel at the job. This award recognizes not only the huntsman’s ability to hunt hounds, care for hounds in the kennel, breed hounds, and ride to hounds, but also personal appearance and professional behavior. The winner of this award is a role model for future huntsmen and acknowledges the important contribution they make to our sport. To be recognized in this way is a true testament to a lifetime of dedication to the sport.
For more than 42 years, Joseph has devoted his life to fox hunting, preserving its traditions while inspiring future generations through his leadership, generosity, and passion for the sport. From his beginnings in County Galway, Ireland, to his many years as Huntsman and now Master of Whiskey Road Foxhounds, Joseph has earned the respect and admiration of all who have had the privilege to ride with him, learn from him, and watch him lead hounds.
His unwavering commitment to the caring for hounds, supporting landowners, encouraging young riders, and his professionalism both in and out of the field has made a lasting impact on our community and our sport.
