It is great to see any improvements for our kids especially with the lack of officers still in many of these schools. But it is still a shame our Aiken County Government and Motorola (by contract) approved for the tax payers to vote on $4,000,000 (4 Million) for “Volunteer Fire Departments communication system upgrades” but are left with below the standard on this equipment.

The Motorola APX 900 radio is the simplest https://www.motorolasolutions.com/en_us/products/two-way-radios/project-25-radios/portable-radios/apx900.html . It is not designed to equip a firefighter that’s running into a burning building or to go underwater. Without the possibility of Smart Connect they will not be able to connect to the Wi-Fi system in our schools to ensure communication. With a big “if” they will get out on the radios in our schools all together. With a Operating Temperature -30 °C (-22) to +60 °C (140) it sure does not seem like a good choice for starters.
