Did you know?: Domestic violence in same-sex relationships occurs at similar rates as domestic violence among straight couples? Unfortunately, DV victims in same-sex partnerships are not receiving the help they need, due to the lack of legal recognition of same-sex relationships, law enforcement’s failure to identify and properly handle DV cases involving same-sex couples, and the shortage of resources available to victims of same-sex partner domestic abuse.
Though the victim in this article may not be an LGBTQIAPK member, society's overwhelming unacceptence, paranoia and fear continues to put people from this community at risk of DV and not just from their partners, but also from their families and friends too.
