Government Dismisses Coup Rumours, Says Kiir’s Leadership Faces No Threat
Information Minister and Government Spokesperson Ateny Wek Ateny has dismissed reports of an alleged coup attempt, urging the public to disregard propaganda, rumours, and unverified speculation.
Speaking to journalists today, Ateny described the coup claims as baseless speculation, arguing that the continued public discussion of an alleged coup itself indicates that no such attempt exists.
He further maintained that no individual is currently capable of carrying out a successful coup in South Sudan, stressing that the country has not reached a stage where such actions could easily take place.
Ateny also expressed confidence in President Salva Kiir Mayardit’s leadership, saying the President and his former SPLA colleagues remain committed to democratic governance and that there is no serious threat to the current leadership.
