Why a man is addicted to sugar
It is known that sugar and products from it or with its addition have been long and firmly entered our menu. Pastries are seen by many as a must-have diet supplement, and some cannot go a day without them.
CNN has given an explanation. Analyzing numerous studies in the field, experts have concluded that sugar has an interesting effect on the brain, namely ni****ne, co***ne and he**in “excuses” brain reward pathways. And this phenomenon has a historical explanation.
“Our hunters and gatherers ancestors were forced to seek out fresh fruit as nutrition. At the same time, the "sweetness" on the taste buds meant that the fruit was ripe and fit to eat. These bonds have been preserved and still are, because when we eat something sweet, our brain loves it. He thinks we’ve found the rare treats. Problem is, we're no longer hunters and gatherers. We live in a modern society where sugar is in abundance. And our brain can't tell the difference between a cake and a strawberry, so it reacts equally,"-said the article.
In turn, the US Department of Health’s National Institutes of Health (NIH) published a study of sugar addiction explained in rats.
"When rats were deprived of food for 12 hours as an experiment and then given a choice of sugar or real food, they chose sugar," the study said.
How to go 30 days without sugar
Journalist Esmeralda Pellott figured out how much she is addicted to sugar. At the same time, the woman kept a diary of her observations and feelings.
Yes, according to her story, she decided to completely cut out sugar from her diet for 30 days because she began to feel like she was addicted to sweets. She wrote that it was difficult because products with sugar or its contents were everywhere. Checking the ingredients of products, she found it everywhere: in drinks, bread, salads, sauces. Pellot didn't buy any of these products. Although she confessed that she could sometimes afford fruit that also contains sugar.
The first three days became the hardest for her. During this time, the journalist almost always felt the desire to eat something sweet. She became irritable, inflammatory and suffered from headaches. Esmeralda felt only on the fifth day of the experiment.
“The days from 11 to 20 were the easiest. I been in my own rhythm. I was proud of my self. I felt like a goddess who could do anything," she wrote.
The woman noted that during this period she felt more energy, began to have more time and sleep better.
"However, between the 21st and 30th days of the test, it was time for another test. I've met friends a few times. And I had a really hard time looking at the candy other people were eating. But despite the temptations, I didn't give up and stubbornly went forward," she shared.
Eventually, the journalist noticed many positive effects from such moderation.
"I no longer feel like a 'slave to my desires' and I've lost 1.5 pounds. This detox has affected my body, my mind and my life," Esmeralda said.
She added that the test taught her to be moderate in sugar consumption. The woman added that there was no reason to completely abandon the product, but recommended in any case consult your doctor.
