Worldwide interest in yoga is growing rapidly: experts say that since 2012, the number of yoga practitioners in the world has increased from 4 million to 11, among which more than 20% are Russian-speaking yogis. Among the most popular goals that lead people to the mat, we can note the desire to tighten their physical shape and strengthen their health, recover from injuries, reduce nervous and psychological stress.
It is interesting that people sign up for massage for the same reasons: the desire of a person to relax, relieve accumulated tension, get rid of pain in the body. At first glance, it may seem that if the reasons are the same, then these two directions should compete with each other. But, of course, this is not the case. The approaches of massage techniques and yoga practice are radically different.
Most massage techniques are based on the principle of passive work with the body, while during yoga classes a person is fully involved in the work on a physical and mental level. During the practice of yoga, we consciously force (convince, motivate, then who is closer to what word) to work our muscles, ligaments, tendons as we need, control the breathing process, taking into account the recommendations of the instructor. And during massage procedures, in most cases, commands are given to the body, bypassing consciousness. Information about external effects on the skin and muscles enters the brain, triggering the body's adaptive mechanisms in the form of the release of hormones, which in turn regulate homeostasis.
So, for example, when we want to build a dialogue with our body, learn to own and manage it, yoga is the best assistant. But where a strong-willed decision is not enough to work out some muscle block, the cause of which may be a certain psychosomatic factor, massage can be effective, acting on a subconscious level. Thus, yoga classes and massage practices perfectly complement each other, providing a comprehensive approach to health.
