I met Nimsdai on the summit of Mount Kilimanjaro about a year ago. Although we only spoke for a few minutes because he was leading his climbing team, we had a great conversation.
What impressed me most was how humble and approachable he was. He never made me feel like I was less important, no matter who I was.
I still remember his words to me: "Let's keep pushing the industry, brother."
Today, my thoughts and prayers are with him and his entire team. I sincerely pray they are found safe and in good health.
"Renowned Nepali mountaineer Nirmal Purja and nine other climbers have gone missing after an avalanche struck Broad Peak (8,047m) in Pakistan's Karakoram Range on Thursday.
According to Pakistani mountaineering officials, contact with the 10-member international expedition was lost after the avalanche. The team reportedly includes climbers from Nepal, the United States, China, and Oman.
Authorities are preparing a helicopter-assisted search and rescue operation as soon as weather conditions improve. Broad Peak is considered one of the world's most challenging 8,000-meter peaks.
Purja, who gained global recognition in 2019 for climbing all 14 of the world's 8,000-meter peaks in just over six months, remains unaccounted for."
