This whole journey from signing up to the challenge in September 2018, to getting here in Tanzania today has been incredible and I’m so grateful that I’ve been able to do it.
The support from my two amazing hiking buddies Liz Wood and Anne Nielsen Greenapplecoaching, and all the other inspirational people in our group helped me through the intense roller coaster experience - wonderful exhilarating moments interspersed with running for toilet stops, vomiting on the mountain side and feeling lousy.
Brutal, incredibly tough, arduous, grueling, living hell were words our group used to describe our 6 day climb. All of us suffered from a stomach virus and the altitude which affected our sleep and we started our summit night with low energy levels.
I reached 5,300m at which point I was advised by the guides to descend, an agonizing decision for me but safety is more important than ambition. It was the right decision as going down was very then very difficult and I arrived back at base camp barely able to speak.
That was definitely both the best and toughest thing I’ve ever done in my life. Thank you all for your support.
