BOXING NEWS RELEASE

The Trinidad and Tobago Boxing Association has just received the ranking for the months of August/September 2015 from AIBA (World Governing Body for Amateur Boxing), and it shows that
four (4) of our boxers are in the rankings. These boxers are:

Anthony Joseph – ranked 68th 52 kgs
Brendon Dennis – ranked 62 91 kgs
Nigel Paul – ranked 61st 91+ kgs
Chimere Taylor (female)- ranked 24th 75 kgs

Mr Nigel Paul, our Super Heavyweight received a late call from AIBA, and is now in Doha Qatar participating at the World Championships, scheduled to begin Tuesday October 12th 2015. This is the first qualifier for the 2016 Rio Olympics. After an absence of eight years, the twenty-ninth (29th) edition of the Caribbean Boxing Championships is being hosted by Guyana from November 25th to 30th 2015. This event is eagerly awaited by the twenty-seven (27) countries in the region. In the past, this event was the yardstick that was used to determine if your athletes were ready to compete on the international level. If an athlete cannot win a Caribbean medal, the chances of winning at CAC, Commonwealth, Pan Am Games, World’s and Olympics are slim.
