The South Sudan’s Chief of Defence Forces, Gen. Paul Ngang Majok, has placed VP Benjamin Bol Mel under house arrest.

We have confirmed the following details:

1. VP Benjamin Bol Mel has been put under house arrest, and his security details have been withdrawn, including his motorcade.

2. President Salva Kiir has been advised to take the day off and work from home, along with his government ministers.

3. A number of senior military generals have been advised to stay at their houses as national security and military intelligence officials investigate what they describe as 'suspicious activities threatening the national security of Juba.'
