SSFF Tightens Rules on Unofficial Tournaments Amid Growing Football Activities
JUBA — March 5, 2026: The South Sudan Football Federation (SSFF) has on Wednesday march 4, 2026 announced new regulations restricting football stakeholders from participating in unofficial tournaments during the official football competition season.
The decision was adopted during the federation’s first Extraordinary Executive Committee meeting of 2026, aimed at strengthening football governance and protecting the integrity of official competitions in the country.
Under the new directive, football associations, clubs, referees, coaches, and players are strictly prohibited from organizing or participating in non-statutory tournaments while official league competitions are underway.
According to the federation, the measure is intended to ensure that official competitions are not disrupted by informal tournaments that may interfere with club schedules, player welfare, and competition regulations.
The directive comes amid growing participation of clubs and players in non-official tournaments and international friendlies, including the recent trip by Jam us FC to face Ethiopia Coffee SC in Ethiopia, as well as the involvement of players from Koryom FC in the Bor Inter-Payam community tournament currently taking place in Juba.
Football observers say the increasing number of community tournaments and unofficial international engagements highlights the growing enthusiasm for the sport across the country, but also raises concerns about scheduling conflicts and player fatigue during official competitions
