This made me cry this morning. I kept repeating as my tears flowed that it feels so good to be seen and that my work is doing what was intended. That’s it. It can be so easy in a social media driven, content content content, celebrity influencer centric time to feel like, you didn’t “win” if you’re not making X amount of money, constantly at the things, posting 5 x a day, in the midst of a total flop era! On the other hand when you don’t have a PhD as a grad school drop out in the academic world… who are you even? Dystopian times where all of this is real and this can’t be real. To dream of a project and hope it comes to fruition with grassroots support (which works!), keeping my head down to work, trying to be proficient, studied, and intentional while remaining gracious and kind. To be JUDGED by people in the community from the very beginning, (the elitism is nuts) who don’t think I deserve what I have because I’m not just a spiritualist I’m a regular bad B* from Baltimore who attempted to figure it out and take up a little space. Keyword: TAKE. Because I dared to grab a mic (pre podcast wars), write a book, and pray, and teach about topics like Africana Religions and Hoodoo and the craft that still get people banished, disregarded and worse. I dared to talk about what I was learning and grew an organic following while never purporting myself as an all knowing leader or teacher. I just have been publicly figuring out, asking questions, and doing the deep work that my ancestors told me for 9 years. To be judged and accused of things from people you never heard of, chile (some of yall were there, the lore runs deep lol) IT IS SO NICE TO BE SEEN! It is so nice that people are not afraid to love me out loud. I am so appreciative of you Christina Brown and Shadonis and everyone who shared their love words and reposts. Just thank you.
And I absolutely should be popping my s*t more!!!!! And my work is still meaningful and it feels good to be reminded of that even when I’m not “producing”
