In Singapore, the word โcoachingโ gets easily confused with โcounsellingโ or โtherapyโ. ๐ค They are 2 different approaches and processes which have different outcomes.
Broading speaking, coaching is future-oriented and action-driven. Coaches see clients as creative, resourceful and whole. ๐ฑ
In counselling, there is emotional healing and trauma processing. โค๏ธโ๐ฉน Counsellors may spend time on history taking to find out more about your past, r/s with family and others to understand how these may have influenced or shaped who you are today. They may also come in with psychotherapy or intervention during crisis.
Put it simply, work with a coach if itโs for everyday issues such as stress at work, procrastination or confidence issues as long as these are not affecting your day-to-day functioning as an individual. ๐ง๐ปโ๐ป
If you believe you are having maladaptive behaviours ๐ (for prolonged periods) which affect your ability at normal daily tasks, it may be useful to visit a counsellor or a therapy instead.
