Women On Mountains

Women On Mountains Women On Mountains aims to encourage women to challenge themselves through mountain climbing, at the Women on Mountains was thus born!

Women On Mountains (WOM) originated from Ace Adventure Expeditions International Women’s Day Challenge (IWD Challenge). It all started in 2013 when the idea of forming an-all women team to climb a mountain to celebrate International Women's Day was mooted. Aside from the challenge to climb a mountain, there was also the objective to support a charity cause to help other women. We sent the first IW

D Challenge team to climb Kilimanjaro in March 2014. Thereafter, a team to Kilimanjaro in 2015 and a team to Everest Base Camp in 2016. By 2016, the interest to join an all-women mountain climbing team has grown. We decided to create more such climbing events outside of International Women’s Day. Women on Mountains aims to continue on the same objectives set for IWD Challenge - to celebrate womenhood by encouraging women to challenge themselves through mountain climbing and to support a charity cause to help other women. Women on Mountains will help to raise fund for Project Pari. Project Pari is a project by Zonta Club of Singapore to help secondary school girls from low income families during their years of their secondary school education. Each student will receive a monthly pocket allowance to enable them to have proper meals and for transportation. Life skill programmes are conducted to help instil in the teenagers a sense of self-worth and to learn skills such as personal hygiene and financial management. It cost $750 to provide for each Project Pari girl for a year. The sum covers $50 monthly pocket money plus the enrichment activities that Zonta Club of Singapore organizes for the girls.

$100 of each Women On Mountains's trek package fee will be contributed to Project Pari. Women On Mountain's trek participants are also encourage to raise fund for Project Pari through their network of friends and contacts. Through Women On Mountains, we hope more women will be inspired to challenge themselves and greater awareness can be created for women’s causes. To help support our fundraising effort for Project Pari to enable more teenage girls from low income families to receive an education, please contribute at : https://www.giving.sg/zonta-singapore

Dominique Low has been an ardent supporter in helping to raise funds to support a charity cause to help other women. She was part of the Women On Mountains team to climb Mt Kilimanjaro (2015) and trek to Everest Base Camp (2016) to raise funds for Project Pari.

In August 2020, in the midst of the pandemic, Dominique had a ruptured brain aneurysm and a stroke. She had to relearn simple things like walking, reading, and making a cup of coffee. After a year of recovery, Dominique is 98 percent back to her pre-aneurysm self. Click the link below to read more about her road to recovery.

You are limitless, Dominique! Thank you for sharing your story with us.

Having to relearn simple things like walking, reading and making a cup of coffee showed entrepreneur and communications specialist Dominique Low that she is stronger than she had thought.

Another great news to share is that we have graduated students who are now in tertiary education came back to take lead, be leaders of their junior Project Pari members.

Thank you Zonta Club of Singapore for creating such a wonderful platform for young ladies to learn, grow, and be their best.

====
PROJECT PARI was set up by the Zonta Club of Singapore in 2008 with a mission to inspire and enable young women from lower-income families to attain a positive outlook of the future and to become responsible contributors to society. The Project provides the means and opportunities for them to gain confidence and capability to realize their potential.
