Thank you to all 1,455 people that participated in the virtual PUB Green Run.
A total of $17,500 was raised for the Nature Society’s rewilding project on the Rail Corridor.
Singaporeans made up 55% of the participants, and runners of over 50 different nationalities made up the rest. While most of these participants completed their runs in Singapore, there were also some who completed their runs overseas, showing the strong support towards the run’s green initiative.
Dr Shawn Lum, President of the Nature Society (Singapore), said, “Nature Society (Singapore) has had the great fortune to work alongside Groundswell Events since 2013. Over the years, the Run has raised awareness for our natural heritage, for the value of sport and fitness in a holistic context, and for the precious, life-giving gifts, such as water, that nature provides. We are honoured to be associated with this event and the long-term partnership with PUB. We are also energised and inspired by everyone who has shown their love for nature through participation in the Run and generous support for the greening of the Rail Corridor. The Nature Society (Singapore) will work to ensure that your investment in nature will bring us an even greener, more resilient, and biodiverse Rail Corridor for the benefit of runners - and non-runners - for generations to come.”
PUB’s Chief Sustainability Officer (pictured), Ms Chong Mien Ling, said, “As climate change intensifies, we need to step up efforts to protect our environment, conserve water resources and cut carbon emissions. Our partnership with Groundswell to organise this run is an extension of PUB’s continued engagement with the community and our commitment towards a low-carbon future. I am heartened by the community’s strong support for the PUB Green Run. Their generous donations will lead to more greenery along the Rail Corridor, contributing towards a greener and more sustainable future for Singapore. Building on the momentum and support garnered this year, PUB hopes to organise a run in a physical format next year, and we look forward to the community’s continued strong participation.”
