Nature Explorers School adopts the Forest School child led pedagogy and conducts it's sessions outdoors in nature, where children are naturally positively motivated to want to find out more.

We celebrated 7 years as a Forest school! We had a nice gathering to thank our coaches. These are a rare breed of people, warm hearted and yet also physically tough in the outdoors. We presented them with medals that they rightfully deserved! Thankful for all the parents that have supported and believed in our programme through the years as well. We are really grateful to have this opportunity to work with children. When the session starts, it hardly feels like work as it is all fun and enjoyment with them. To many more years! 💚❤️

Our forest trees are more than part of the natural and green landscape. They are sacred spaces of shelter, connection, creativity, movement and rest. Under their shade, children find respite from the sun. Among their majestic branches, they climb, balance, take risks and discover what their bodies can do. Beneath their green canopies, children create, imagine, play and find a quiet place to pause and be present. Time spent around trees and natural green spaces has long been associated with benefits to our health, mental well-being and sense of connection with the nature. In our forest school, trees are not just the backdrop to play and learning… these trees are part of the experience itself, often offering countless possibilities for child-led play.

If we show children why we care for trees, they grow to be stewards of earth who understand why these are worth protecting. 🌳💚

NES celebrates Singapore’s National Day in August. 🇸🇬🌿

At Nature Explorers School, we believe that loving our country also means learning to listen to its stories, especially the ones quietly held within our green landscapes, forests and natural spaces. Our forests are more than just places to explore. They hold traces of our past, stories that are sometimes forgotten, and reminders of the journey Singapore has taken to become the nation it is today.

This National Day, our children gathered to talk about the recent developments surrounding Maju Forest, what these changes might mean for Singapore’s future, and what they hope to see in the years ahead.

And they had so many hopes and dreams. 💭🇸🇬 For a Singapore filled with nature, love, kindness, understanding and care for one another. Perhaps this is what it means to celebrate our future is not simply by looking ahead, but by listening to the voices of the children who will one day lead us there. If we nurture them well, guide them with wisdom, and give them opportunities to play, question, care and dream, they will grow into the leaders who carry Singapore forward, towards a future that is not only successful and prosperous, but also one filled with love, empathy and kindness. ❤️

Majulah Singapura! The children wanted to do a flag raising, sing the national anthem and do the pledge! Totally child led, I was filled with pride doing this session. The future is bright for Singapore! 💚❤️

Lots has been said about the clearing of the Maju forest. We have shared our view with HDB via their Environmental Impact Assessment form.

Human beings have always had a connection to the land since ancient times as we are all part of nature, and this is important for our healthy development. But due to globalisation, we are losing more and more of this connection, and think that we are above nature. Unfortunately for Singapore, it is a balance of what we do with the scarce land that we have. We just worry that the impact of clearing nature spaces is not considered enough. You have to understand what you are dealing with first before you realise the importance of what you are removing. These natural spaces are beautiful places for us to connect with nature. We have seen this story before with the clearing of previous forest for housing needs and we are worried this trend will continue to happen. We hope that more of natural spaces can be left as it is, we don’t need more parks or flattened paths. We have conducted magical programmes before in these forest and we are saddened by the potential lost of this place. Within this Maju forest is also a beautiful long natural trail that cannot be replaced or rebuilt once lost.

We hope that as in this photo, that these would not be the last children in the forest. That children of tomorrow can still have the privilege and opportunity to experience playing in it just as their forefathers have before them. 💚

We are pleased to invite you to a special sharing session on what Forest School is really about. Over the past seven years, we have gathered much knowledge both locally, from running our Forest School programme, and from abroad by getting to know forest kindergartens in Europe.

Running a Forest School programme is not that simple, and is much more than just bringing your children outdoors to play. We need to understand firstly why it is important to give people and children more time and space to try things themselves, before we can conduct such an outing ourselves. Once understood, this idea of giving space can be applied in everyday life, and not just in the forest.

Children today are also facing a real threat never before seen since the start of time with overexposure to screens and technology. We will share what we know about this and why it is important to limit the use of screens for children.

We realise that working with children may not be enough, and we need to involve parents so that they can continue to help their children outside of forest school. Whether you’re a parent, parent-to-be, we would love for you to join us for this casual sharing session. Bring your questions, share your thoughts, and discover how the principles of Forest School can enrich the lives of children, and perhaps even your own.
