I am heartbroken. RIP friend.
It is with broken hearts that Marlene, Natasha and Kaitlyn announce the sudden and sad passing of Kyi Hla Han.
Kyi hla was in the process of stem cell treatment to eliminate the last few percent of multiple myeloma cancer, and contracted an infection at a time when he was most immune compromised by the chemo in the stem cell treatment.
The infection lead to multiple complications which he fought to the end, resulting in his passing at 3.28 pm on Saturday February 19, 2022. He was surrounded by the love of friends and family from around the world, Kaitlyn returning from Canada, and Marlene and Natasha who never left his side.
Kyi hla had prepared well for the treatment and was fit and active with golf, walking, swimming and entertaining close friends in town for the Singapore Open, just a couple weeks prior.
Besides golf, Kyi Hla loved to play guitar. He worked tirelessly to always improve his guitar skills, and shared a love of playing music with his daughter Natasha. At home, he was almost always seen playing his beloved guitars. Kyi Hla loved being outdoors and in nature, he enjoyed hiking and walking in beautiful places such as in Myanmar, Vancouver and Singapore. Kyi hla also loved diving and being on the water, sharing many family holidays in Thailand and Bali. Even during the pandemic, he continued to swim and spend time in his pool as he awaited to return to travelling.
Kyi hla was best known for his role in shaping golf in Asia. As a Touring Pro, Kyi Hla won 11 tournaments and achieved Asias top position as the Asian Tour Order of Merit winner in 1999. He continued playing for a few years, before joining the Asian Tour in 2004 in the top spot, as Commissioner. Widely respected in the world of golf, Kyi Hla’s influence was strong and deep.
Kyi Hla’s greatest loves were his family and friends and he will be tremendously missed and never forgotten. His legacy lives on, and he will live on in our hearts and memories.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations to the Kyi Hla Han Future Champion Award in recognition of his life long efforts to growing golf and commitment to the development of juniors and the sport of golf in Asia. This will be managed by the Asian Tour.
The Wake is being arranged at Kyi Hla’s favourite place, home. Details being finalised and more information forthcoming. In the meantime, we are grateful for all love extended however wish to minimise social activity and communication during this period of mourning.
