Posted • New , , and T-shirt? Must pose for picture! Side note: A to the hand against an angle 1 is probably one of my most utilised techniques. Awesome pattern sticks courtesy of the inimitable , extremely comfortable t-shirt (this pink came out as a fantastic colour) from and gloves are the Warrior Burn 13” in Red (for the colour blind out there), recommended by Mandala Sensei E. Music: Natsu’s Theme - Fairy Tail OST

Intro: Seguidas #2 of 3rd Set into Baton Hand Switch as demonstrated by Kuya Doug Marcaida in Aperture Fight Focused ‘s Emotional Candy series. GN has outdone himself, again, with a fantastic series overall featuring Kuya Doug Marcaida and Tuhon Jared Wihongi - get it from https://www.pekiti.university/store/6qZgZNL7

We drilled the fencing line and explored the 3rd set of Seguidas for a rollicking good time

Come join us for some fun training in Pekiti-Tirsia Kali!

It’s always fascinating how social media can influence/inspire us. A combination of seeing Kali Majapahit - Southeast Asian Martial Arts‘s schedule for their special week between cycles(well worth checking out!!) and rewatching the Sparring Tactics video with Mandala .l.jones.52 on Pekiti Tirsia Tactical Association‘s excellent platform (made by the inimitable GN over at Aperture Fight Focused) inspired me to explore some solo baston counter-offensive tactics myself. Great fun!

When I first met LG Valerie Drckxsns in Bohol and I saw pictures of some of the, at the time, new Sinawali designs, I was immediately drawn to the Seigaiha pattern - and not just because I’m a massive otaku. I spent my childhood around the sea (“The line where the sky meets the sea? It calls me...”- I’m also a massive fan of the film Moana lol), and thus anything that reminds me of the ocean immediately resonates with me. And it was LG Valerie who taught me that the seigaiha isn’t just found in Japanese culture but also is found, coincidentally, in other cultures around the world

And so two years after our first discussion, I finally have this to carry my sticks and rep Sinawali when I train 😀

July 20th and 21st was a thoroughly fulfilling and exhausting weekend spent in Petaling Jaya with faces familiar and new.

My only regret was not being able to stay for LG Valerie Drckxsns class on the 22nd, and for that I will forever be envious of those who could 😛 (But of course, I always enjoy our martial art nerds geek outs!)

All in all, it was a completely wonderful seminar with Tuhon Kit - from the organisation to the ex*****on, so major props to Arnis Malaysia and all involved.

One of my favourite things about is that every time I’ve attended any sort of class with any of the excellent instructors I learn new things and learn to see familiar things in new ways. It’s a process of almost consistently getting my mind blown. I wouldn’t trade any of those experiences for the world

All the photos I’m in were stolen off of John Ng 😛 (Thanks!!)

During the Asia Camp in Bohol, LG .drckxsns and Tuhon taught this great sequence which incorporated a grip change from to

Yesterday, I wondered whether I could put that grip-switch into a flow - and after some experimentation, this is the result. It was good fun to see how the fine motor demands of the grip-switch frustrated us to no end. The best kind of frustration 😂😂

The 13th to 16th of June were some very interesting, educational, and wonderful days for me. Four days of training and assisting. I got the opportunity to not just learn new skills and refine current ones, but also the opportunity to learn some of the relationship between the pedagogy and the material. Something I’m monumentally grateful to Tuhon for.

To witness him teaching two distinct groups - the SPEAR team and our civilian martial arts practitioners -, compare the material and presentation, and to be able to have discussions with him between lessons helped me a great deal in refining my own practice and teaching.

The act of teaching the material is one thing. To be trusted to teach it under the name of an organisation that is respected worldwide is another. It is a responsibility I am honoured to have been trusted with - and also a responsibility I will continuously strive to do right by.

I count myself as profoundly lucky for the many opportunities that have come my way to train with the best in this art and to have found the wonderful support of people around me. A huge thank you to the brave men of SPEAR Force I got to know during the 2-day BONOWI Camlock Basic Instructor Course and TRICOM Advanced Expandable Baton Instructor Course, and for the great location.

A huge thanks to the participants of Tuhon Jared’s public seminar as well. I have a deep love for Pekiti-Tirsia and to be able to share the art I love with others is a wonderful, fulfilling, and heartwarming experience. Much love to all of you!
