That's what he always told people.

And actually… it was true.

Customers were coming.

Sales were happening.

His phone never stopped.

Staff needed him.

From outside, he looked successful.

One evening, after everyone had gone home, he was sitting alone in his shop.

He had been working since his twenties.

More than 20 years.

Upgrade the car once in a while.

One evening, he was looking through some old photographs.

There he was at 27.

Young.

Ambitious.

Full of plans.

He remembered thinking:

“By the time I'm 45, I'll be financially comfortable.”

He looked at his savings.

His monthly commitments.

My friend was smiling when he told me.

A few years ago, he was earning around $4,000.

Then $5,000.

Then $6,000+.

Every promotion felt like he had finally made it to the next level.

And naturally, life upgraded too.

The old car became a better car.

The family moved to a nicer place.

Holidays became a little more expensive.
