Training in the Martial and Combat Arts is often paradoxical.
At the Dr Alan HJ Chan Well-being Conference organised by SUSS, we the issue of how we can enter a Flow State that flourishes under pressure and allows us to exhibit peak performance.
The question was how we stay centered when everything around us feels chaotic?
In high-pressure environments, true mastery isn't about avoiding stress—it's about learning how to navigate it.
Our latest presentation explores how the core principles of martial arts and combat training can be applied directly to everyday life to maintain total composure during conflict and uncertainty. The flow drills utilised in many combat drills allow us to develop pattern recognition skills. Thus, combat training helps make the unknown known. Recognizing patterns decreases uncertainty, which directly lowers stress.
Remember: it is only a "skill" if it is available under stress!
Big shout-out to the ACJC DEP (.dep) students who have been training in stage combat with us for assisting in the demonstrations
