Lawn Bowls Association for the Disabled

Lawn Bowls Association for the Disabled LBAD's vision is to make lawn bowls the sport of choice. The bowl's design, slightly flattened on one side, creates the challenge of the game.

We are a registered charity with IPC status and is a member of the Singapore Disability Sports Council and National Council of Social Services. Lawn bowls is a popular precision game across the world and suitable for participants of all ages and abilities. The object of lawn bowls is to roll a ball, or bowl, closest to the target ball, a small white/yellow ball called a jack. The shape of the ball causes it to travel a curved path, or bias. A bowler determines the bias direction of the bowl in his hand by a dimple or symbol on one side. Lawn bowls requires little equipment: a set of matching bowls; a pair of flat, smooth shoes; a jack and a mat. Two teams compete, each with 1-4 players. Usually, lawn bowls takes place outdoors on a green, grass or synthetic surface. In recent years, the outdoor games have been modified for indoor play with a carpet of 15m x 2m, this "Short Mat Bowls" version is now popular in Community Centres, Schools and Sport Clubs.

For the very first time, Bowls Singapore and Parabowls Singapore come together to present the Singapore Open Triples 2026 — a landmark event celebrating inclusivity, unity, and the true spirit of the game.

This historic tournament brings together athletes of all abilities, competing side by side in a powerful display of teamwork, resilience, and sportsmanship. More than just a competition, it represents a step forward towards a more inclusive sporting community where everyone belongs.

It was truly a pleasure and a great honour to be invited to be part of the Istana Open House on 19 April. The Istana, which means “palace” in Malay, is the official residence and office of the President of Singapore, making this opportunity especially meaningful for our organisation.

The event was not only a wonderful platform to engage with the public, but also a significant occasion for us to share the spirit of inclusivity through sport.

We were also privileged to meet Mr and Mrs Tharman and to engage in meaningful and enriching conversations together with our parabowlers. It was a memorable moment that inspired and uplifted our athletes.

Our dedicated volunteers worked tirelessly throughout the day promoting lawn bowls, sharing our story, and selling merchandise in support of our cause. Their commitment and passion were truly commendable, and we are deeply grateful for their efforts.

This event holds special significance as we continue raising funds to support our parabowlers in their training, development, and participation in overseas competitions. Every contribution plays an important role in empowering them to pursue their journey with confidence and pride.

We are heartened by the strong support from the community your encouragement and generosity inspire us to continue building a more inclusive sporting environment for persons with disabilities.

We’re truly humbled to be one of the proud beneficiaries of the President’s Challenge, receiving generous support that helps us continue our mission of inclusion and growth.
Yesterday was extra special — Radio DJ Sheikh and Rafi Ali joined us at the patient health centre, bringing warmth, laughter, and encouragement to everyone there. 💛
