Pamela Lee is one of the most recognizable names on the Class40 circuit and one of the very few Irish sailors to truly break into the French offshore racing scene. Her next goal is the 2026 Route du Rhum, the legendary solo transatlantic race from Saint-Malo to Guadeloupe. If she reaches the start line, she will become the first Irish sailor ever to do so.

From campervan summers and Mirror dinghies in Ireland to building a Class40 campaign in Brittany from the ground up, Pamela Lee’s journey offshore has been anything but straightforward. Along the way she has crossed oceans, fought for her place on deck, learned French “off the deep end” and built Ripple Racing into far more than just a sailing campaign.

Sandra Sandqvist caught up with Pamela to talk about finding home in the middle of the Atlantic, building a campaign like a startup, breaking into the French offshore scene and what the Route du Rhum really represents.

Getting your rope setup right is one of those details that quietly defines how a boat performs, how it feels to sail, and how long your gear actually lasts. It’s about understanding loads, handling, and finding the balance between performance and durability.
Together with insights from Liros, I’ve reviewed and refined the running rig on my Diva 399 to create a setup designed for both speed and longevity.
Curious about the thinking behind the new setup – and the small changes that can make a big difference onboard? Read the full story at gybeset.co 🪢

When I first met in November 2024, the project was still just an idea. We had both just joined ’s acceleration program, and during my very first visit to she generously hosted me at her parents’ home in Haarlem. A late dinner following my arrival quickly turned into long conversations about sailing, ambition, and the kind of careers we hoped to build in sailing.

A year later we unexpectedly crossed paths again at Metstrade. This time it was for the Magenta graduation ceremony. By then, in just twelve months Nienke had moved from concept to campaign. She had secured an investor, bought a Mini 6.50, and was preparing to relocate to Lorient in France. When we caught up again in March, she had already begun training. Her campaign was no longer an idea. It is now a reality.

For years, women in sailing have adapted. Made do. Adjusted gear that was never really built for them.

starts somewhere else.

Founded by sailor and designer Solène Saclier, this brand is built from real experience on the water and shaped through co-creation with women who actually sail. From offshore racers to weekend crews, every piece is tested, challenged, and refined in real conditions.

Because performance gear should do one thing: work. Without distraction. Without compromise.

This is not about resizing men’s gear. It’s about rethinking it entirely. From movement and ergonomics to durability and responsibility.

The industry is changing. The question is who is willing to rebuild it from the ground up?

Season clinics kick-off! 🚀

Next week, we’re kicking off our clinics for the Spring 2026 season. This week is fully dedicated to offshore sailing. Maybe you’re dreaming about sailing or taking on one of the 600 races this summer, develop your skills as a navigator, or just want to sail an offshore passage with more confidence. If so, next week is your perfect pre-season kick-off!

Here’s what’s happening:

📌 21st April: ONLINE
Open to everyone. Expedition Post-Race Analysis Webinar with . Learn how to reconstruct the weather, review routing decisions, and analyse performance data to identify key tactical moments and opportunities for improvement. Co-hosted in partnership with , this is a unique opportunity to access otherwise members-only knowledge from a high-profile league racing on the Solent and around the UK. The webinar is free for members of the series.

📌 22nd April: IN-PERSON | Stockholm
Women only (sorry guys… we do like you, but this is girls’ time ;))
Route planning for offshore racing: Gotland Runt and beyond. Using Gotland Runt as our focal regatta, we’ll review the Notice of Race, Sailing Instructions, and course description to analyse the race, prevailing weather conditions, and develop a plan for how to execute the regatta quickly and safely.

We’ll explore weather apps, software, and forecasts, and use them to plot the course and create a routing plan. We’ll also review safety equipment, sail selection, and route choices.

The course will be held at ’s centrally located store on Fleminggatan 17. Like a lift on the racecourse, Skidbytarboden will stay open exclusively for us during the evening, and all participants will receive some great offers.
