On World Population Day, let's remember that every child deserves safe outdoor spaces to play, learn, and grow as our communities continue to expand. 🌏✨
In both Denmark and Romania, we love to play outside, and our communal games are very similar:
🇩🇰RUNDBOLD🇩🇰 and 🇷🇴OINĂ🇷🇴: TWO SIDES OF THE SAME GAME?
While Danes grow up with rundbold, Romania boasts its ancient national sport, oină! Having read up on the rules of oină, we’ve found some differences and similarities. Both games centre around a rectangular pitch where one team has to shoot the ball with a bat as far as possible, while the other team is to retrieve it, before the runners from the first team makes it around the bases. However, there is one big difference: rundbold is mostly a fun recess game, that is often played at school, thus the size of the pitch and the teams are flexible. To our knowledge, oină is a much more serious sport, always played by teams of 11.
Whether on a Danish lawn or a Romanian field, the joy of using outdoor spaces is a universal language. 🇩🇰🤝🇷🇴
