“Learn to walk before you can run”
Heard this old saying many a time through out the years
Running is a simple technique one foot in front of the other? Is it not ?
But what if this simple technique is never mastered properly in the younger years athlete. Why is it never taught ?
Some coaches of today look more to the V02 max and lactic buffer, building elaborate training sessions.
In younger athletes to prevent injury and enhance running technique we need to be going back to basics with younger stars of the future.
Look at improving strength in feet and ankle, balance with movement skills , after all this is the structure that will need to support all the intense training and miles as they develop into adult runners Investments of basic skills at younger ages can bring bigger rewards moving forward. Introduction at primary school before specialising into any sport.

I see so many younger athletes injured and drop out of the sport. We need to focus on them as kids and then help develop into stronger fitter faster adult athletes.
Below is a 9 year old girl who struggled to balance on one foot but is starting to learn to control her movements. Still lots work to be done !

Desert Days & Special Moments: Time with My Eldest in Dubai

There’s something magical about Dubai—the heat, the pace, the skyline rising out of the sand—but nothing quite compares to the joy of spending time there with my eldest daughter.

This trip was more than just tagging along to one of her tough training blocks (although timing her laps in that scorching sun deserves a medal of its own!). It was about being present. Cheering her on from the sidelines, seeing the determination in her eyes with every stride—it reminded me just how driven and focused she is, and how proud I am of the woman she’s become.

But beyond the training sessions and recovery routines, what really made this trip special was the time we shared off the track. Slower mornings, evening meals, chats that weren’t rushed… and, of course, celebrating the big news—her engagement to Michael.

Seeing them together, happy and full of love, was such a heart-filling moment. They’re a brilliant team, on and off the track, and I couldn’t be happier for them both. It’s a beautiful thing to watch your child step into a new chapter of life, especially when it’s one built on so much respect, support, and shared dreams.

This trip was a reminder that amidst the training, planning, and goals, it’s the quiet moments, the shared laughter, and the quality time that matter most.

Here’s to more desert adventures, more milestones, and always finding time to be present with the ones we love.❤️

What a fantastic few days in portugal doing a reccy with
An amazing group of women from the ambassadors with Huw, Nick and Darren. We ran walked parts of the course, visited the cancer screening clinic where donations will be made to support women in the local community. The 50k ultra is early november entries open. The trip also coincided with my Birthday and i want to thank each and everyone of you for making my birthday fun and special ❤️

Tested 178 girls yesterday for the creating pathways program. Thank to laura (PE) for organizing. Big shout out to all the amazing girls who participated with great energy and the biggest smiles. Nada and Blu my coaches did great job encouraging the girls to enjoy snd try their best. Sport needs to be prioritized in schools as well ss education as sport is about giving everyone access to health fitness and mental wellbeing, everyone deserves to be the best version of themself and yesterday we saw that in abundance
