Khushdil Shah is one of those players who never seems to get a fair run in ODI cricket. Despite performing well whenever he is been given a chance, he keeps getting dropped. It feels like the selectors judge his ODI place based on his T20 results rather than his actual ODI performances.
He only had 12 ODI innings but there have already been some important contributions. He made 27 off 17 against Australia in Pakistan's successful chase of 349, and 41 off 23 against West Indies while chasing 306.
His most recent ODI appearance came in the 2025 Champions Trophy. He played just two matches yet he finished as Pakistan's highest run scorer in the tournament with 69 off 49 against New Zealand and 38 off 39 against India.
For a player with such limited opportunities, his ODI record has been quite decent. Yet he is out of the ODI side again which makes it seem like the management treats T20 and ODI cricket as the same thing. 🤷‍♂️

پاکستان کرکٹ میں ایک بات آج تک سمجھ نہیں آئی۔
جب بھی ٹیم خراب پرفارم کرتی ہے تو سارا غصہ کھلاڑیوں پر نکالا جاتا ہے۔
کوئی بیٹرز کو برا بھلا کہتا ہے، کوئی بولرز کو، کوئی کپتان کو۔
لیکن کبھی کسی نے سنجیدگی سے یہ سوال پوچھا کہ ٹیم کے پیچھے بیٹھے لوگوں کو کس بنیاد پر ذمہ داریاں دی جاتی ہیں؟
مثال کے طور پر سرفراز احمد اور اسد شفیق۔
دونوں پاکستان کے لیے اچھے کھلاڑی رہے، اس میں کوئی شک نہیں۔
لیکن جب انہیں ٹیم مینجمنٹ یا کوچنگ سیٹ اپ میں شامل کیا گیا تو ان کے پاس ایسا کون سا مضبوط کوچنگ تجربہ تھا جس کی بنیاد پر انہیں یہ ذمہ داری ملی؟
کیا صرف سابق کرکٹر ہونا کافی ہے؟
اگر ایسا ہے تو پھر دنیا بھر میں کوچنگ کورسز، تجربہ، ڈومیسٹک کوچنگ اور پروفیشنل ڈیولپمنٹ کی کیا ضرورت ہے؟
جدید کرکٹ اب صرف ٹیلنٹ کا کھیل نہیں رہی۔
آج کامیابی کے لیے سسٹمز، پلاننگ، ڈیٹا اینالیسس، کوچنگ اور پروفیشنل سوچ کی ضرورت ہوتی ہے۔
بدقسمتی سے ہمارے ہاں اکثر ایسا لگتا ہے کہ عہدوں کے لیے قابلیت سے زیادہ تعلقات اور جان پہچان اہم ہو جاتی ہے۔
اور جب فیصلے میرٹ کے بجائے پسند ناپسند پر ہوں تو نتائج بھی غیر مستقل ہی ہوتے ہیں۔
پاکستان کرکٹ کو صرف نئے کھلاڑی نہیں، بلکہ ایک ایسا کلچر چاہیے جہاں ہر تقرری کا معیار واضح ہو۔
سوال صرف یہ ہے:
اگر کسی کوچ یا سپورٹ اسٹاف کے لیے تجربہ ضروری نہیں، تو پھر میرٹ کا معیار آخر ہے کیا؟
