Afridi smashed his century in only 37 balls, setting a new record for the fastest century in ODI cricket at the time — a record that stood for 18 years.
Pakistan scored 371/9 in 50 overs, while Sri Lanka were bowled out for 289. Pakistan won the match by 82 runs and qualified for the final.
Afridi was named Player of the Match for his outstanding all-round performance, scoring 102 off 40 balls and taking 1/43 in 10 overs.
