Why High Kicks Can Be a Bad Idea in Self-Defense
High kicks might look amazing in movies and tournaments, but in a real-life self-defense situation, they can put you in serious danger.
Here’s why:
⚠️ Balance Risk – Lifting your leg high makes you unstable, making it easier for an attacker to grab you or knock you down.
⚠️ Speed Loss – High kicks take longer to execute compared to low, fast strikes like knee kicks or shin kicks.
⚠️ Limited Range in Close Quarters – In tight spaces (like hallways or crowds), high kicks are difficult to pull off effectively.
⚠️ Exposure to Counters – A failed high kick can leave you wide open for grabs, sweeps or takedowns.
✅ Better Option: In self-defense, stick to low, powerful strikes — knees, low kicks to the legs, or stomps. They’re faster, harder to block and keep you balanced.
⚔️ Remember: Self-defense isn’t about looking flashy — it’s about surviving. 🥋👊
