The CEAP Regional Games 2024 concluded with a thrilling display of skill, mastery, and proficiency as Ateneo de Zamboanga University emerged triumphant in the highly competitive chess tournament, held at St. Vincentโs College, Dipolog City, from February 28 to March 02, 2024. Among the participating schools were Saint Columban College of Pagadian City and the host, St. Vincent's College Inc. of Dipolog City, in which all teams demonstrated deep positional understanding and strategic maneuvering against one another.
In the high school division, Ateneo de Zamboanga University showcased their dominance, clinching the championship title in the men's category with a score of 6-2 and securing the 2nd runner-up position in the women's category with a close score of 3.5 - 4.5.
In the college men's division, Ateneo de Zamboanga University demonstrated exceptional skill and strategic prowess. In their first match against Saint Columban College, Ateneo secured a commanding victory with a score of 3.5 - 0.5, setting the stage for their continued success. The momentum carried into their second match against St. Vincentโs College Inc., where they secured a hard-fought victory with a score of 2.5 - 1.5, ultimately clinching the championship title.
The college women's division witnessed equally intense competition, with Ateneo de Zamboanga University showcasing their resilience and determination. In their first match against Saint Columban College, the Ateneo team fought fiercely to a draw with a score of 2-2. However, facing off against St. Vincentโs College Inc. in their second match, they encountered a formidable competitor and were decisively defeated with a score of 1-3, earning them the position of 2nd runner-up.
Looking ahead, Ateneo de Zamboanga University is now gearing up for another exhilarating challenge. Both their high school and college chess teams of the men's category are set to showcase their brilliance in the upcoming CEAP Mindanao Games 2024 in Surigao, scheduled for June. This next level of competition would pave the way to further test their mettle and commitment to excellence.
The CEAP Regional Games 2024 not only showcased the exceptional talent and skill of the participating teams but also served as a platform for fostering camaraderie and sportsmanship among students from different educational institutions.
