Climate Change severely impacts the Philippines, a highly vulnerable nation due to its location in the Pacific Ring of Fire, leading to intensified typhoons, sea-level rise and extreme weather events that threaten communities, infrastructure and livelihoods. These climate shocks result in economic losses, food insecurity and public health risks, necessitating urgent local and global action to build resilience and implement climate adaptation strategies through legislation like the Climate Change Act etc.
Hence, the Lagataw Skim Boarding Club as one of the active youth-serving organizations in the locality, will be launching its first project—SEA-NAG. Project SEA-NAG or Sustainable Environmental Advocacy for Nature and Economic Growth is established to promote environmental protection, livelihood and tourism as well.
As proposed by the adviser and founder of this organization — Gerald Mora. The first step or activity of this project to minimize these pressing issues of climate change is Mangrove Growing, as it lessens the effects of storm surges during typhoons and/or floods as well as to serve as a sanctuary to many marine lives. Second, is to introduce and open the Paddle Boarding here in San Roque N. Samar. This way, besides removing trash and debris from rivers to protect water quality and preserve the environment, it is also a way to promote the river itself and the river banks as tourist spots through this sport.
Nonetheless, the Lagataw Skimboarding Club encourages all the youth and those who are interested to partake in this project to act, protect, and save the Planet Earth. 🌱🌎
