🏀 ELASTO PAINTERS TAKE CHARGE THE GAME 1 VS. GIN KINGS

Coach Yeng Guiao knew Rain or Shine Elasto Painters came in as underdogs against Barangay Ginebra San Miguel. His message was simple: show up and compete.

The Elasto Painters did exactly that—and more.

Rain or Shine went toe-to-toe with the Gin Kings and delivered a stunning finish in the final minutes, pulling off a 115–111 upset in Game 1 of their PBA Season 50 Commissioner’s Cup semifinal series on Wednesday night at the Ynares Center.

“It’s tough to play Ginebra. I have great respect for their team. They have the GOAT import, the GOAT coach, half of Gilas, the possible MVP… at sino ba naman kami,” Guiao said.

🏀 TNT ESCAPES THE ELECTRIFYING CURRENT OF MERALCO BOLTS TAKES GAME 1 IN SEMIS

TNT Tropang 5G avoided a late collapse and held off Meralco Bolts, 94–89, to take Game 1 of the PBA Commissioner’s Cup semifinals on Wednesday at the Ynares Sports Center.

The Tropang 5G grabbed a 1–0 lead in the best-of-seven series despite a strong late fightback from the Bolts.

“The one thing that we focused on our game plan was to not allow Meralco to clobber us,” said TNT head coach Chot Reyes.

🎾 EALA TO START HER LUCK IN STRASBOURG OPEN

Alex Eala will begin her Strasbourg Open campaign against Oleksandra Oliynykova in France today, Monday.

The 25-year-old Oliynykova is currently ranked No. 68 in the Women's Tennis Association rankings and made her Grand Slam debut at the Australian Open earlier this year.

Last year, she captured three WTA 125 clay-court titles — the Tolentino Open in Italy, the Tucuman Open in Argentina, and the LP Open in Chile.

Before heading to France, Oliynykova bowed out to Simona Waltert in the Round of 128 of the Madrid Open.

Eala, meanwhile, is coming off a third-round exit at the Italian Open, where she fell to Elena Rybakina, 6–4, 6–3.

🔥 EMPHATIC FINISH

Lito Adiwang needed just 34 seconds to dismantle Eko Roni Saputra in their 140-pound catchweight MMA bout on Saturday morning at ONE Fight Night 43 inside the Lumpinee Boxing Stadium.

“The Thunder Kid” uncorked a massive right hook that immediately sent the Indonesian stumbling backward. Smelling blood, Adiwang quickly swarmed his wounded opponent.

What followed was a barrage of clean punches to the head and body as Saputra covered up against the ropes. A final crushing right hand from the Filipino landed flush on the chin, forcing referee Olivier Coste to step in and wave off the contest.

🏀 GIN KINGS STAY FOCUS TO CLAIM THE WIN FOR SEMIFINALS BERTH

True to Tim Cone’s words, Scottie Thompson did a little bit of everything in the Gin Kings’ win, finishing with a near triple-double of 16 points, nine rebounds, and nine assists.

RJ Abarrientos also chipped in 16 points, while Stephen Holt added 11 for Barangay Ginebra San Miguel.

“I think, for us it’s a total team effort,” Thompson said. “There’s still a lot more to improve on. Our coaches, though, prepared us well.”

Up next for the Gin Kings in the semifinals is Rain or Shine Elasto Painters, which earlier defeated San Miguel Beermen, 113–104.

In the elimination round, Ginebra routed the Elasto Painters, 114–90.
