"You don't have to be great to start; but you have to start to be great."
Sometimes, as adults, our biggest hindrance in learning is our minds. Well, aside from stiff muscles from our sedentary lifestyles and sitting too much, the doubts and fears in our heads grip us from pursuing the things we've always dreamed of as children.
Looking stupid
I'm too old. It's too late.
What will others think?
What will others say behind my back?
Wala akong kasama.
Etc. etc.
Stiff muscles, well, that can be improved. Through continued and progressive practice, stretching, and exercise, you can become more flexible, supple, and more easy-moving.
Doubts and fears, well, can be a bit trickier. But. Just like our muscles, our minds can be trained too. Studies have shown that if we voluntarily face things we're afraid of, we become braver.
New genes, yes, dormant genes, get turned on in our brains. New connections are formed and we become a new person, quite literally.
And we don't have to face a giant on our first day. First step could just be showing up.
Show up for that class.
"It's either you're green and growing or ripe and rotting."
