Saturday Training

🏐 Intermediate Volleyball Training — Defense Drills

For intermediate players, the focus should be on reaction speed, proper defensive position, reading the hitter, and controlling the first ball.

1. Ready Position + Reaction Drill
Start in defensive stance.
Player moves quickly and performs a controlled dig.
Focus: low position, quick first step, platform control.

2. Short–Deep Defense
Player must decide quickly whether to move forward or retreat.
Focus: reading the ball and changing direction.

3. Spiker vs. Defender
One player attacks while another defends.
Defender reads the hitter's approach and arm swing.
Start with controlled attacks, then gradually increase power.
Focus: anticipation and positioning.

4. Dig + Transition
Defender digs the attack.
Immediately transitions to an offensive position.
Repeat continuously.
Focus: defense → recovery → attack readiness.

5. 3-Ball Defense Drill
Ball 1: deep attack
Ball 2: cross-court attack
Ball 3: short tip
Defender must recover after every ball.
Focus: conditioning, reaction, and consistency.

6. Defense Under Pressure Create a rally where the defensive team must make 3 successful digs before they can score. This teaches players to stay composed and fight for every ball.

Key coaching points:
Read → Move → Stop → Platform → Recover.
The goal is not just to keep the ball alive—make the dig controllable enough for the setter to run the offense.

Volleyball Developmental Training focuses on building players step by step—from basic skills and proper movement to game awareness, confidence, and consistency.

Key areas:
🏐 Fundamental Skills – passing and defense
💪 Strength & Conditioning – balance, coordination, agility, jumping, and functional strength
⚡ Movement & Footwork – proper approach, lateral movement, reaction, and positioning
🔥 Confidence & Mental Development – overcoming hesitation, being aggressive toward the ball, and developing discipline

Goal: Develop well-rounded volleyball players who are skilled, disciplined, confident and coachable.
