HALFWAY THROUGH THE MWA SUMMER SURF SCHOOL πŸ€™πŸ½πŸŒŠ

Our students just wrapped up the first weekend of the program, with two 2.5-hour sessions focused on building strong surfing foundations before charging into the waves. The surf program is led by MWA president Peter Ocdenaria, assisted by members Argei Patawi and Jan Nogas.

Day 1 was all about learning the basics:

β€’ Types and parts of surfboards
β€’ Surf safety and surf etiquette
β€’ Proper board handling on land and in the water
β€’ Paddling techniques, turning, positioning, and control

Day 2 was where things started getting real. Students got into the water and experienced guided surfing with instructor pushes while learning:

β€’ How to read and choose waves
β€’ Timing and positioning
β€’ Proper stance and balance
β€’ Applying paddling techniques to catch waves independently

The progress in just one weekend has been amazing to watch. Still a long way to go, but everyone’s already building confidence, ocean awareness, and respect for the sport one session at a time. 🌊

QUICK RESPONSE WHEN IT MATTERED MOST

At around 7:00 PM on May 30, 2026, MWA members Jonilo Catubig and Joel Palmera were among those who immediately responded to a vehicular accident incident and helped assist on-site while waiting for proper emergency response.

What makes this even more meaningful is that both members recently completed the Lifeguard Skills and Qualification Training conducted by the Coast Guard Davao Oriental Mati Station together with the City Tourism and Promotions Office.

Training matters. Preparedness matters. We’re proud to see our members step up and put what they learned into action beyond the beach and into real-life situations where calm thinking and quick response can make a difference.

Salute to our members for being ready to help when the community needed it most. πŸ€™πŸ½

MARAMING SALAMAT, BM JEROME DAYANGHIRANG, for helping us keep our oceans and beaches clean. πŸ™ŒπŸ½

This is a reminder for all of us that it is our responsibility to protect and preserve the beauty of our environment so that we may continue to enjoy its gifts.

A few ways you can help do this is by practicing CLAYGO or clean as you go and joining our beach cleanups.

Let's all be responsible tourists and locals and keep Dahican Beach clean. πŸŒ΄β›±οΈπŸš
