Congratulations, Anthony! 🥈🇵🇭 The future of Philippine chess is bright! ♟️✨
Silver in his first international tournament 🇵🇭 🥈
At six years old, Anthony finished 2nd in the 7U Rapid division of the 2nd Bangkok Summer International Chess Open, held in Thailand. He scored 5.5 out of 7 rounds while competing against players from across Asia and the United States.
The opportunity to compete internationally as a Filipino player meant a great deal to him.
Before the tournament, Anthony asked for something he could wear bearing the Philippine flag. He later admitted that the cap we got was a little itchy, but he still chose to wear it in every game 🇵🇭
His tournament began with an important lesson. In the first round, Anthony reached a completely winning position but overlooked a stalemate while converting his advantage. He recovered, continued competing, and completed his first international event with a podium finish.
The tournament gave him valuable experience against unfamiliar opponents and new lessons to bring back to training!
We are grateful to his coach, the organizers 2nd Bangkok Summer International Chess Open 2026, family, fellow players, Pasig City Sports, coach Franco and Pasig City Chess, and everyone who supported him throughout the experience!
