San Beda Outdoor Club previously known as San Beda Mountaineering Society, or ‘Bedan Mountaineers’ is a student organization founded in 1989. San Beda Mountaineering Society continues to preserve its tradition and make a higher benchmark through valuable training, quality activities, and responsible mountaineering. Some Key Milestones of the Organization:
1989 – Bedan Mountaineers (now SBMS) was
founded by Randy de Leon, Reggie Libatique, Frankie Manas, Dominic Mendoza and Christopher Modina in Mount. Maculot, Cuenca, Batangas.
1990 – ‘Bedan Mountaineers’ was listed as an official student organization of San Beda College.
1991 – The Bedan Mountaineers its first federation climb on Mt. Mayon, Legazpi, Albay together with the Don Bosco Mountaineering Society (Former school of Randy de Leon & Chris Modina). The organization was then accredited by the National Mountaineering Federation of the Philippines Inc. (NMFPI, now MFPI)
1990-1993 – The ‘Bedan Mountaineers’ was the four-peat holder of the best special interest organization award.
2004 – Bedan Mountaineers, now SBMS, inducted its first female members (Catherine ‘Kat’ Buelva, Marycar ‘Encar’ Quilop, Kim Ruiz, Candy King and Michelle Villasis) in Mount Pulag, Kabayan, Benguet.
2005 – Froilan Llavore and Dennis Chan summitted Mt. Kilimanjaro, the highest peak in Africa at 19,340 feet.
2007 – SBMS organized the first ‘Karera Bedista’ adventure race during the San Beda College FROLICS.
2008 – A team composed of JV Benedicto, Mike Arbues, John Buno, John Vergara, Lendl Layug, Ace Borja and Jacob Sarreal established a trail from Mount Balingkilat to Anawangin Cove in Zambales relying on mapping, GPS, and navigation skills.
2012 – Jacob Sarreal summitted the 20,182 feet Stok Kangri in the Indian Himalayas.
