CHECKPOINT ORDERED SET-UP IN MAKATI CITY FOR COMELEC GUN BAN
PSSUPT ROGELIO P SIMON, Chief of Police, Makati CPS in coordination with Atty. Jerico Jimenez and Atty. Anthonette Aceret, Makati City Election Officers has ordered the setting up of checkpoints in Makati City to ensure the effective implementation of the gun ban during the election period. The security preparations for the election period has been discussed during the Joint Security Meeting with the local Comelec Election Officers (EO) presided by the Chief of Police on January 11, 2019 at Cafeteria Loungue, Makati CPS Headquarters, Ayala Avenue Extension, corner Yakal St.,Barangay San Antionio, Makati City.
Two (2) checkpoints were set-up within Makati City which started from January 13, 2019 until June 12, 2019, the end of the midterm election.
If circumstances warrant, “spot checkpoints” may be established upon coordination with EOs.
As per guidance of PSSUPT SIMON, police personnel manning the checkpoint must be in complete uniform with visible nameplate. He also stressed that checkpoints must be well lighted to allow all those passing through to easily identify the uniformed policeman and the signboard must conformed with the requirements of the COMELEC. The team manning the checkpoint must courteously request motorist to dim the headlights. Only visual search is allowed and motorist cannot be forced to step out of the vehicle. No person may be subjected to physical or body search in the absence of reasonable ground to believe that the person has just committed, or about to commit or committing a crime, PSSUPT SIMON, added.
To ensure that the above requirements of the Comelec has completed, the Makati CPS established a syncronized Comelec checkpoint kick-off ceremony in 10 Police Community Precincts which started from 12:01 am up to 3:00 am of January 13, 2019. One male person was arrested by personnel manning the checkpoint along Sampaguita St., Barangay Pembo (PCP-9) for carrying illegal drug pharaphernalias when he passed through the checkpoint on board a motorcycle. Subject person was turned over to SDEU Makati for filing of criminal charges.
DD, SPD, PCSUPT ELISEO CRUZ also inspected the Comelec checkpoint established along Pasong Tirad, Kalayaan Avenue, Barangay Guadalupe Nuevo, Makati City at about 12:45 am of January 13, 2019 and witnessed the kick-off ceremony together with PSSUPT SIMON and EOs.
