It’s hard to find the right words when a life as bright as Leandro Jose Maitem’s is cut short. When we think of Leandro, we don’t just think of the stats or the scores; we think of the person who made the room feel a little warmer just by being in it.
To Leandro, basketball wasn’t just a sport—it was something he truly loved. You could see it in the way he played: with a genuine smile, a steady hand, and a deep respect for the game. He didn't play for the glory; he played for the joy of the movement and the bond it created with his brothers at HTA.
But his impact went far beyond the court. In the classroom and among his peers, he was known as a beautiful soul—someone who was consistently kind, grounded, and sincere. He was the kind of friend you could rely on, the kind of student who led by example, and the kind of person who treated everyone with a quiet, natural grace.
We are left with an empty spot in the lineup and an empty chair in the classroom, but we are also left with the beautiful memory of a life well-lived, however brief. Leandro, you were more than just #21; you were a true friend and a light to us all.
You’re signing off now, but the way you loved your life and your friends will stay with us forever. Rest easy, Leandro. You will always be in our hearts 🕊️
