🔨 History of the Pulaski Axe
   •   Inventor: The tool is named after Ed Pulaski, a U.S. Forest Service ranger.
   •   Year: He invented it in 1911, after experiencing the devastating Great Fire of 1910 in Idaho and Montana.
   •   Background: During that fire, Pulaski famously saved the lives of most of his 45-man crew by leading them into an abandoned mine shaft and keeping them there until the fire passed.
   •   Need for the tool: Firefighters needed something versatile—able to chop wood and dig trenches—so Pulaski designed this dual-purpose axe-adze.
   •   Adoption: The Pulaski quickly became a standard tool for wildland firefighters across the U.S. and later worldwide.

Today, the Pulaski axe is considered an essential tool for wildland firefighting crews, symbolizing both practicality and Pulaski’s heroism.
