II) competing in a powerhouse composite team alongside 𝘔𝘢𝘳𝘤 𝘓𝘢𝘸𝘳𝘦𝘯𝘤𝘦 𝘍𝘢𝘺𝘭𝘰𝘨𝘯𝘢—delivered a stellar performance at the
Zamboanga Debate Open (ZDO) held via online modality last April 18–19. ‎ ‎The

Showcasing their intellectual depth on the onsite stage, the trio of 𝘑𝘰𝘩𝘯 𝘝𝘪𝘬𝘵𝘰𝘳 𝘍𝘦𝘳𝘯𝘢𝘯𝘥𝘰 (BA English Language II), 𝘑𝘰𝘩𝘯 𝘚. 𝘕𝘢𝘵𝘪𝘷𝘪𝘥𝘢𝘥 (BS Psychology II), and 𝘋𝘩𝘢𝘯𝘢𝘺𝘢 𝘈𝘭𝘷𝘪𝘢𝘯𝘢 𝘝𝘦𝘳𝘢 (BS Psychology II) along With Jarett Wynzel Madamba (BS Nursing II) Competing as a judge secured their spot among the top performing teams at the Manila Intervarsity (MIV) XIV, held at the University of the Philippines Manila last April 11–12.

‎Competing in a high-stakes Pro-Am Asian Parliamentary format, the team emerged as the 1st Reserved Dr. Elmer Cruz Ranked Team, navigating through complex motions and rigorous rounds of debate against some of the most prominent debate societies in the country.

‎ ‎The team's success at UPM highlights the growing caliber of MMSU's debaters in the national circuit, proving their ability to excel in face-to-face academic discourse. This achievement further solidifies the university's presence in the intervarsity scene, marking a successful campaign in the heart of Manila.!

𝗟𝗢𝗢𝗞 | The 𝗠𝗠𝗦𝗨 𝗗𝗲𝗯𝗮𝘁𝗲 𝗦𝗼𝗰𝗶𝗲𝘁𝘆 (𝗠𝗗𝗦) and the 𝗠𝗠𝗦𝗨 𝗖𝗼𝗹𝗹𝗲𝗴𝗲 𝗼𝗳 𝗠𝗲𝗱𝗶𝗰𝗶𝗻𝗲 (𝗖𝗢𝗠) held a cross-training session on March 27, 2026, conducted online via Google Meet, featuring a sparring round in the 𝗔𝘀𝗶𝗮𝗻 𝗣𝗮𝗿𝗹𝗶𝗮𝗺𝗲𝗻𝘁𝗮𝗿𝘆 format.

Debating on the motion, “𝘛𝘩𝘪𝘴 𝘏𝘰𝘶𝘴𝘦 𝘉𝘦𝘭𝘪𝘦𝘷𝘦𝘴 𝘛𝘩𝘢𝘵 𝘦𝘯𝘷𝘪𝘳𝘰𝘯𝘮𝘦𝘯𝘵𝘢𝘭 𝘢𝘤𝘵𝘪𝘷𝘪𝘴𝘵𝘴 𝘴𝘩𝘰𝘶𝘭𝘥 𝘱𝘳𝘪𝘰𝘳𝘪𝘵𝘪𝘴𝘦 𝘳𝘦𝘧𝘰𝘳𝘮𝘪𝘯𝘨 𝘪𝘯𝘥𝘶𝘴𝘵𝘳𝘪𝘢𝘭 𝘢𝘨𝘳𝘪𝘤𝘶𝘭𝘵𝘶𝘳𝘦 𝘰𝘷𝘦𝘳 𝘦𝘹𝘱𝘢𝘯𝘥𝘪𝘯𝘨 𝘨𝘳𝘦𝘦𝘯 𝘦𝘯𝘦𝘳𝘨𝘺,” both institutions engaged in a rigorous exchange of arguments and perspectives.

Representing the Government bench, MDS fielded 𝗝𝗼𝗵𝗻 𝗩𝗶𝗸𝘁𝗼𝗿 𝗧. 𝗙𝗲𝗿𝗻𝗮𝗻𝗱𝗼 (𝗣𝗿𝗶𝗺𝗲 𝗠𝗶𝗻𝗶𝘀𝘁𝗲𝗿), 𝗝𝗼𝗵𝗻 𝗦. 𝗡𝗮𝘁𝗶𝘃𝗶𝗱𝗮𝗱 (𝗗𝗲𝗽𝘂𝘁𝘆 𝗣𝗿𝗶𝗺𝗲 𝗠𝗶𝗻𝗶𝘀𝘁𝗲𝗿), and 𝗗𝗵𝗮𝗻𝗮𝘆𝗮 𝗔𝗹𝘃𝗶𝗮𝗻𝗮 𝗡𝗶𝗰𝗼𝗹𝗲 𝗔. 𝗩𝗲𝗿𝗮 (𝗚𝗼𝘃𝗲𝗿𝗻𝗺𝗲𝗻𝘁 𝗪𝗵𝗶𝗽). On the Opposition side, COM was represented by 𝗟𝗲𝗼𝗻𝗮𝗿𝗰 𝗩𝗶𝗻𝗰𝗲𝗻𝘁 𝗦. 𝗔𝗯𝗲𝗹𝗹𝗼𝗻 (𝗟𝗲𝗮𝗱𝗲𝗿 𝗼𝗳 𝗢𝗽𝗽𝗼𝘀𝗶𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻), 𝗠𝗮. 𝗗𝗲𝗹𝗳𝗶𝗻 𝗟. 𝗡𝗼𝘃𝗲𝗻𝗰𝗶𝗱𝗼 (𝗗𝗲𝗽𝘂𝘁𝘆 𝗟𝗲𝗮𝗱𝗲𝗿 𝗼𝗳 𝗢𝗽𝗽𝗼𝘀𝗶𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻), and 𝗝𝘂𝘀𝘁𝗶𝗻 𝗟𝗮𝘂𝗿𝗲𝗻 𝗣. 𝗣𝗮𝗿𝗮𝗱𝗶𝗮𝗻𝗴 (𝗢𝗽𝗽𝗼𝘀𝗶𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝗪𝗵𝗶𝗽), ultimately securing the win for the round.

Serving as panelists and adjudicators for the round were 𝗝𝗮𝘆 𝗥𝗲𝗶𝗮𝗻 𝗙. 𝗥𝗼𝗰𝘂𝘁𝗮𝗻, 𝗙𝗲𝗮𝗻𝗻𝗮 𝗠𝘆𝗿 𝗗. 𝗖𝗮𝘀𝗶𝗹, and 𝗜𝘃𝘆 𝗥𝗮𝗺𝗼𝘀, who provided critical feedback and insights to both teams.

The cross-training served as a platform for both organizations to refine their skills and exchange insights in preparation for their respective upcoming competitions, with MDS set to compete in the 𝗠𝗮𝗻𝗶𝗹𝗮 𝗜𝗻𝘁𝗲𝗿𝘃𝗮𝗿𝘀𝗶𝘁𝘆 𝗧𝗼𝘂𝗿𝗻𝗮𝗺𝗲𝗻𝘁 (𝗔𝗽𝗿𝗶𝗹 𝟭𝟭–𝟭𝟮), while COM gears up for a national-level tournament.

The MMSU Debate Society continues to foster collaboration and excellence through training initiatives that strengthen both competitive readiness and inter-organizational ties.
