Sometimes, I miss when pickleball was just… pickleball.
No ratings. No rankings. No pressure. No overthinking.
Just people figuring things out together.
I miss when everyone was still learning. When every good shot felt like the biggest achievement. When people celebrated simply because the ball went over the net. When we stayed longer after games just to talk, laugh, eat, and enjoy each other’s company.
I miss when nobody cared too much.
As the community grew, the game changed too.
There are more tournaments now. More competition. More expectations. More pressure to improve. More comparisons. More moments where winning feels too important and losing feels too painful.
And maybe that’s normal.
But sometimes, I wonder if we are forgetting why we started.
Because at the end of the day, this was just supposed to be fun.
And maybe this is also a reminder for myself because I know how much losing hurts sometimes.
But the truth is:
It is okay to lose.
It is okay to have bad days.
It is okay if someone is simply better today.
Someone else’s success does not erase your progress.
A medal cannot measure your growth.
A rating cannot measure your worth.
And one game will never tell the full story of who you are.
Because years from now, I don’t think we’ll remember our ratings.
We’ll remember the people.
We’ll remember laughing until late at night.
We’ll remember the random partnerships.
We’ll remember the first friends we made.
We’ll remember the feeling of discovering something that made us excited to wake up again.
So if you’re still in that phase where everything feels light, where every session feels exciting, where nobody cares too much yet —
Please enjoy it.
Because one day, you’ll realize those were the moments that mattered the most.
Win or lose, thank you for showing up.
