WRLG x GDT HILONGOS CROWNED CHAMPIONS 🏆

WRLG x GDT Hilongos has officially claimed the championship of the Brgy. Conception Inter-Commercial Basketball League 2026, defeating 4J’s LPG Garin, 110–90, in a highly anticipated championship rematch.

With the venue packed and the championship atmosphere at its peak, both teams came out firing from the opening tip. The first quarter featured an early exchange of baskets, with neither side willing to give an inch. WRLG x GDT managed to establish a slim 28–24 lead at the end of the opening period.

The battle continued into the second quarter as 4J’s LPG Garin refused to back down and continued to challenge the defending momentum of WRLG x GDT. But WRLG x GDT remained composed, reasserting their poise and gradually taking control of the game.

As the contest progressed, WRLG x GDT sustained its intensity, executed down the stretch, and protected its advantage until the final buzzer. The final score read 110–90, sealing the championship victory for the Hilongos-based squad.

The victory also settles the highly anticipated rematch between WRLG x GDT and 4J’s LPG Garin, adding a memorable chapter to their new competitive rivalry.

WRLG x GDT Hilongos Completes Stunning Fourth Quarter Comeback to Capture Ichon Open Invitational Championship 2026

Brgy. Ichon, Macrohon, Southern Leyte | The championship game of the Ichon Open Invitational Basketball League delivered everything basketball fans could ask for, as WRLG x GDT Hilongos erased a double-digit deficit and produced a remarkable fourth quarter rally to defeat JJ Cares Maasin City, 86-77, and claim the tournament championship.

The opening quarter immediately lived up to the championship atmosphere, with both teams exchanging three-point baskets and pushing the tempo from the opening tip. JJ Cares Maasin City found its offensive rhythm early, executing efficiently on both ends of the floor to build a narrow 28-24 advantage after the first ten minutes.

WRLG x GDT responded in the second quarter, trimming the deficit to just a single possession through aggressive drives and timely defensive stops. However, every surge was answered by JJ Cares, whose disciplined offense allowed them to maintain control heading into halftime with a 51-45 lead.

The third quarter belonged entirely to JJ Cares Maasin City. Their balanced attack, defensive cohesion, and efficient ball movement frustrated WRLG x GDT throughout the period. The lead ballooned to as much as 16 points, putting the championship seemingly within reach for the Maasin squad. Still, WRLG x GDT found a glimmer of hope when a late three-pointer beat the buzzer, cutting the deficit to 72-59 entering the final quarter. Despite the score, WRLG x GDT appeared out of sync, struggling to establish any consistent offensive flow.

Then came a fourth quarter that will be remembered by everyone inside the gym.

WRLG x GDT opened the final period with an emphatic and-one play that ignited both the bench and their supporters. That momentum quickly snowballed into a breathtaking 13-0 run over the first four minutes, completely erasing the deficit and forcing a 72-72 deadlock.

The relentless defensive pressure and transition offense continued, and with 4:30 remaining, WRLG x GDT finally seized its first lead of the night at 74-72. JJ Cares answered with a clutch three-pointer to briefly regain the advantage, but WRLG x GDT refused to surrender. Their defense tightened even further, holding JJ Cares to just five points in the entire fourth quarter while executing with confidence on the offensive end.

The comeback was completed in dominant fashion as WRLG x GDT closed the game on a commanding run, sealing an 86-77 victory and lifting the Ichon Open Invitational Basketball League Championship Trophy.

From trailing by 16 points to producing one of the tournament’s most memorable comebacks, WRLG x GDT Hilongos showcased resilience, belief, and championship composure when it mattered most. Their relentless fourth quarter effort transformed adversity into triumph, proving that heart, discipline, and teamwork can overcome even the toughest challenges.

‼️WRLG Hoops & Thoughts‼️

Basketball fever is alive and well in the Philippines and around the world. As the NBA Finals take center stage in the United States and the PBA Finals approach at home, fans are once again enjoying the excitement, drama, and brilliance that basketball delivers.

This year’s championship season could have been even more memorable with two of basketball’s most intriguing seven-foot talents on the biggest stages of their respective leagues. In the NBA, Victor Wembanyama continues to captivate fans with his rare combination of size, skill, and athleticism. In the PBA, many hoped to see Bol Bol display his own extraordinary talents under the Finals spotlight.

Unfortunately, that parallel storyline will remain a “what if?” for now. Bol Bol’s injury in the semifinals denied PBA fans the chance to watch him compete for a championship and showcase his unique skill set on the league’s grandest stage. It would have been fascinating to see two members of basketball’s new generation of seven-footers captivating audiences in different leagues thousands of miles apart.

What a coincidence it would have been: two towering talents redefining what big men can do, entertaining fans during Finals season in their respective leagues. One story continues, while the other was cut short.

As fans, we can only wonder: What if Bol Bol had stayed healthy? While we may never know the answer this season, the excitement surrounding these modern giants reminds us why we love basketball. Sometimes, the most compelling sports conversations are not about what happened, but about what might have been.

CHAMPIONS. Tested by pressure, crowned by resilience.

What looked like a one-sided battle in the early stages turned into a full-blown basketball thriller that kept everyone at the edge of their seats. Game Day Threads came out blazing, building a commanding 34-point lead in the first half and seemingly putting one hand on the championship trophy early in the game. Their chemistry, ex*****on, and confidence were on full display as they controlled the tempo from the opening whistle.

But Team Moja had other plans.

Refusing to back down, Team Moja stormed back with relentless energy and heart, turning the game into a nerve-racking showdown. Possession after possession, they chipped away at the massive deficit until the once comfortable lead was suddenly cut down to just 4 points with under two minutes remaining. The crowd came alive, the pressure intensified, and the championship atmosphere reached another level. It became more than just basketball. It became a test of composure, grit, and determination.

In the end, Game Day Threads weathered the storm and stood tall when it mattered most, surviving the late-game comeback to secure the victory 91 - 86 and capture the championship crown of the Local Inter Commercial League 2026 in Brgy. Western, Hilongos, Leyte.

What a month it’s been for the Hilongos basketball community!

On May 11, 2026, we celebrated a huge win in Divirsoria, Bontoc, Southern Leyte, where our team clinched a championship for the Under-20 Intertown Basketball Tournament.

And just last night, our incredible under-12 team (born 2013!) took home the Intertown basketball championship in Matalom, Leyte. These wins are a testament to our exceptional players, our dedicated coaches, and the unwavering support of our generous sponsors.

We also want to give a big shout-out to the parents—both of our older and younger players—who have been there every step of the way. Your support makes these victories even sweeter. Together, we’ve had a fantastic season—here’s to more!
