One week ago, kids trooped to International School Manila for a morning of bouldering fun at the Young, Wild & Free (YWF) Youth Climbing Competition. Prepared for them were 16 boulder problems to read, unlock, and complete. And tackle the problems, they did.

The kids pulled, pushed, balanced. Pinched, reached, hopped to a deadpoint. Swung, jumped, fell. Tried this and that, and tried again and again. Gritted their teeth, chalked their hands, wiped their sweat. Asked for beta, shared tips, cheered each other on.

It was SO much fun watching each one give his and her all, alongside teammates and fellow competitors, in front of parents, coaches and friends. And witnessing those fist pumps and proud smiles at every top... They're all reminders of why this sport rocks!

Thank you to ISM for hosting. Thank you to the parents and coaches who brought their students. And a big congrats to all who stood on the podium! đŸĨŗ The YWF Youth Competition Series was on a break since 2020, but now it's back, and we're excited to see even more participants in the 2025 season! Stay tuned.

Still remember how stoked we were when we first laid our eyes on Cantabaco (Area 5). It was mostly flat, TALL, and exposed -- and just held SO many possibilities in terms of the level of climbing it could bring to the scene. To say we were excited is an understatement. The new playground became an annual place of convergence of Filipino climbers. It was what we showed off to international climbers. It was where new routes were developed regularly, and where grades were pushed.

And this is what 20 years of Lust for Lime mean for us: How humble beginnings could grow into legendary events when a community bands together.

Sharing a few pics from 2006 and the 2nd L2L, which Miel called the "2nd Cantabaco Rock Trip and Outdoor Development Project" in a message to the Pinoyclimbers Yahoogroup (last image, wow we ancient!) His 2006 email subject aptly reads, "A rock trip like no other..."

Thank you for doing this year after year. Thank you Kuya for beginning the developments. Thank you for providing the venue to meet fellow climbers and to motivate each other. Thank you for the crazy-epic-party memories đŸ¤Ē Cheers to 20 years of climbing stoke, and to many more to come! đŸĨŗ

Eyes on the prize. The outdoor season is drawing near! Looking forward to the cooler and dryer temps that makes our slippery limestone friction better, and the seemingly impossible moves feel nicer 👌

Here's studying and executing this pristine line in Ambongdolan, Benguet.

Iloilo, what a weekend! We flew in from Manila to support the National Bouldering Competition, and what a show it was. We appreciate everyone involved!

First and foremost, the competitors: SO. MUCH. ENERGY! It's such a pleasure to witness individuals try their hardest and go all out. In that kind of setting, it's inspiring how competition can bring out one's best performance. My favorite part was watching climbers stablize themselves at the top...The anticipation of knowing whether they had control, and once they confirm they do, their joy erupts and electrifies.

Routesetters: Well done! A huge applause to the tournament director, setters, judges, marshalls, and the entire Technical Team, who worked tirelessly to deliver an atmosphere that is enjoyable not just for the climbers, but also for the audiences (in-person and online - ganon na ngayon!) The grind that goes behind staging an event is not as visible as what competitors go through, but something that equally requires dedication and wisdom, that only comes with years of experience.

And to this growing Filipino climbing community...It was a new vantage to be in the audience seat for the whole duration (not a competitor nor an official this time around), and I did enjoy the view. To be able to savor the suspense of each round, problem and attempt; to observe different ways nerves are managed; to share in problem solving (without actually having to stress my mind and body, haha); to unite in screams with the rest of the crowd: it's a different kind of joy. And to see old faces, and notice an exponential number of new ones...The possibilities feel endless.

Hats off to for welcoming the challenge of hosting a Nationals, and for accommodating all the wild climbers from all over the country.

A few snaps from last weekend when these troopers climbed outdoors for the first time! 🎉 Graced with a window of decent weather, we muddied our shoes hiking up to Monkey Wall, tired out the fingers on limestone, got sweaty and dirty all over, and wrapped up the morning with pork ribs sinigang and chicken adobo at Aling Norma's 👌

Grateful for the sun shining, for friends climbing with us there, and of course, for Rhea and Joms for being happy, try-hard climbers. Til our next outdoor session!
